Question please folks - what has to happen for falling snow to begin to settle on already wet & slushy ground? Is it the intensity of the snow/temp or what?

its both intensity and dp lower dp sticks easier

wow woke up to damp surfaces and a dusting of snow on cars. what went wrong

Its intensity of PPN that is important in this situation, we have a couple of inches but underneath I can see how wet the ground got before it settled at some point in the night.

Same for most it seems mm. Hopefully all we need is some patience as heavier stuff comes in. Will be a day of surprises and disappointments. A weather lottery today imo.

Nothing much here, a little wetness on the grass and some slush on the windscreen but nothing to write home about. Will be no problem getting to work but still a long day ahead.

Things are flowing relatively okay locally, the usual 'suspects' only being effected thus far ie. cat and fiddle, woodhead, but operating services in Derbyshire haven't cancelled or facing and severe delays which will be good for the commute.

So far I am seeing the shocking result of the shadow effect! The ground is dry and only a few small flakes are blowing in the wind.

This will be the second system of it's type i.e. coming in from the South West were there seems to be almost a brick wall standing in the way just around Manchester area and those to the north of it. Just play the radar loop and watch those dark green/yellow vapourise into very light blue almost instantly as soon as it reaches Manchester areas.

Need this to be intense and prolonged for anything significant here, especially heading towards midday. Heavier snow now, but wind is really blowing it around.

At Preston station snow coming down nice and steady but hardly settling thus far. If it stays this way it will be such wasted potential.
