I'm still amazed at how fast this snow is melting, just goes to show how strong that sun is this time of year, even under a deep level of cloud!

I've thought the same. I've noticed how the snow turns very soft in exposed places, yet becomes pretty crunchy when the Sun has set, even if the air temperatures are reasonably similar. :)

The very low dew points make quite a difference. Take the strong sun out of the equation and the cold upper air and the low dewpoints quickly take the temperature back to freezing and below by late afternoon. The dryness of the air also explains why the snow keeps its crunch in the shade quite well, even in the middle of the daysmile.png There is still the small remains of snow drifts sitting in the Firehills, close by to me, following the snow of two weeks ago. It survived the milder wetter weather of last week and virtually stopped thawing since the weekend!

If I'm eating very late at night, it's likely to be a curry or a chicken kebab.drinks.gif

Mostly sunny, windy and cold, rinse and repeat of yesterdays weather. Presume cloud will build up during the evening leaving a mostly cloudy night before a repeat performance tomorrow.

A friend of mine pointed out that the winter of 1962 was very similar to what we have now with a very late spring.

its looks set to be the coldest march since 1962 for england.

and 1969 for scotland i think

I've read that the 60's had pretty poor summers on the whole. I remember some chap telling me how wonderful (weatherwise) they were, from his youth. I also remember thinking about rose tinted spectacles...

Ermmm, I wish I had that much hair (ever) and I was only a nipper in the 60's but I did have an early penchant for Mini's:

Plenty of sunshine here. Still too bloody cold, though!

Yep, concentrating on the search for snow! (and worse, much worse)
