Big storm over the Whitby area .....just checked radar ......missing out on a good one again.

Whitby had more than 11mm from that, it was like a line of storms just to our east for almost two hours - we stayed dry but had constant thunder.

It's just amazing how this storm has grown out of nothing , almost 6mm of rain in 10 minutes with frequent lightning.

I expect it might fade away after sunset, but at the moment it looks a tad worrying!

i would expect the cold front to move south east from you in a few hours, but you never know, were in the moors are you i used to have a pub in kirkbymoorside the gateway to the moors lol

It went a very eerily mucky yellow and I missed a good shot of those mammatus clouds ....really smart.

Photos just took with my Galaxy S3.

Tomorrows rain looks a bit tricky at the moment initial forecasts were for heavy rain for most of the day but now it looks like it may ease for a time during the morning before moving back in during the afternoon before finally clearing away around tea time totals don't look too high either which suggests it should be mostly light

Accumulated totals to 18:00 Monday

A yellow warning is in place for Northumberland only

Issued at:

1635 on Sun 4 Aug 2013

Valid from:

2000 on Sun 4 Aug 2013

Valid to:

1600 on Mon 5 Aug 2013

Rain will turn heavy on Sunday evening, continuing overnight and into Monday before easing away eastwards. Accumulations of 20-40 mm are likely in many parts with the risk of more than 60 mm over parts of SW England. The public are advised to be aware of the risk of surface water flooding.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A waving frontal zone will remain slow moving across the area before slowly clearing east on Monday, conditions improving over Wales, NW England and Scotland during the morning, though not till the afternoon further south. Rain could turn thundery at times with some intense downpours within the longer spells of rain. There is the chance that this warning may be upgraded to amber, especially for SW England.

Latest for Monday now is rain early on before this eases away mid morning with the afternoon bringing sunshine and showers some of these could be quite heavy at times

Tuesday to Thursday then sees things returning to normal with sunshine taking over once again with winds falling light and temperatures around 20c it will feel very pleasant

Friday may see a weak band of rain moving across the region but this is highly uncertain at the moment

The first band of rain is continuing to push north east wards into the north sea the south of the region should see the rain coming to an end for a time in the next 60 to 90 minutes

The main band of rain has now left most of the NE a decent dry gap has now moved in though with the cloud remaining quite thick further light showers can't be ruled out
