We did rather well here for snow last Winter and at 308 feet or so we arn't exactly high up - had a number of separate events with some massive snow flakes, some of the biggest I've seen in a long while. Strangely I believe parts of South Manchester had hardly a flake settle, just shows how marginal it was at times.

Yes I remember it, you were nearly having an orgasm while I suffered in silence, it just shows you though because I had 3 separate instances of 10cm or more last winter and an almighty blizzard late march, I am after a massive one though, stonking winter overall last winter though, I was hoping to freelance this winter bout really doubt it will happen now due to funds, I may not even be here, I might be in midlands, it will be typical if I do, I would have fared better in midlands last year although cant complain though, it was a good year.

Believe me...that was good for here lol....

Never seen snow much deeper than this (in the flesh I mean). I haven't lived!

I said I was going to ditch all this model watching lark after having a certain amount of fulfilment last winter but I just cannot let it pass, seeing blizzards make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up- its like the clubbing getting wrecked scene back in the day - I just cannot let go - mind you no girlfriend since 02 probably helps stimulate my motivation.

No girlfriend since '02?! Bet you're single handedly keeping the Kleenex profits in comfortable territory lol

I don't think I've ever seen a true blizzard tbh, seen some very heavy snowfall but the trouble is that around here it takes its time to stick.

Is that a northwesterly pattern or South easterly I always get mixed up with these

Generally we would see a undercutting low from charts such as this if they come to fruition. As the low pressure comes in off the Atlantic with cold air entrenched over us, we would see winds from the SE/Easterly corner so would mean good ingredients for snowfall where the boundary sets up. So these charts at the moment look good if you like scenarios like this!

Wrt blizzards, I may have not seen one judging by the proper definition of one, whats bugging me is that I have got back on the forums too earkly, I really want the next 2 months to go quick.

The problem is they change within 6 hours so once the next run comes out then the picture changes, you used to be able to find a way around it but you cant now, they have changed it.

Pin pointing one day 3 months ahead will always show change. You're not going to get a model predicting the same synoptic scenario on that one day 3 months ahead on consecutive runs are you Posted Image

I really haven't seen anything so uncertain as Autumn 2013, then again Autumn is always uncertain and unpredictable to forecast.

It's October that's causing the headache.

The SSW last winter really knackered our spring up this year so I was very pleased to read that bit however an SSW isn't the b all and end all of winter is it? was the bitter spell at the end of 2010 caused by an SSW or was that just luck for coldies with everything falling into place for a month or so before thing improved in January and February?

My early winter thought's http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/72635-the-seasonal-forecast-thread/?p=2778785

The winter of 2009-2010 I believe was another Winter that didn't require any aid from a SSW ... yet still ended up very cold.

Oh dear, I've just read through a full page talking about winter 2013/2014 - can please stick to the topic of Autumn 2013 - I'm tempted to remove any posts which mention winter 2013/2014 in this thread...
