poseidon - different story here - they're genuinely shooting up here atm - look to your south

we've 2 very tall and narrow Cu now - quite unusually narrow - more what I've seen with convection in southern Europe

Where in relation to Chelmsford are they?

Cheers!!Yup it is to the West of Slough (Burnham). It is growing at a rapid pace I tell youGetting pretty dark here now too.It is about time Slough had a storm (thunderstorm or snow) being a direct hit. We always seem to clip the edge of it!

Here in Maidenhead it has clouded up but no sign of a big storm here yet. Looks very cloudy and menacing to the west though. West of Reading I think. I came from work there not long ago and it was relatively clear (Reading that is). Edited by stuboy

Agreed Paul, it's been more Lincs northwards into NE England than the South East in recent years. 6th August 2008 may be the one you refer to? That provided several hours of constant lightning, best storm for many many years...

Yep

5 Years since the last Night-time lightning is truly pathetic. That was a great storm went on for about 4 hours from 7-11pm If I recall

Those isolated thunderstorm cells appear to be amalgamating into one mass of thunderstorms - multicell?

poseideon - one is due west of here (south Chelmsford)

the other S-West

they are looking not quite so well defined now - but still quite tall - I'd say 18k feet plus based on the Heathrow approach aircraft that come over here @ 12k feet or so

i think i am safe to go for a cpl of hours in the hot tub for a cpl of hours, not looking likely for any storms here

Clouds climbing nicely here in Basildon, even a plane passing at 10,000 ft to give some perspective!

I can hear distant rumbles to the west of Basingstoke at the moment. Two cells visible, looking quite beefy. Going to be an interesting few hours I do think.

Yep, I infact watched that develop throughout the afternoon. It gave some wicked night lightning for a time and was producing lightning every 20 seconds at the top of the anvil. Was beautiful and rare to see really. It was the night of the 7th August 2008.

Sky filling up with lots of AcCas towers in MK now & looking very dark towards the south & south west of here. Appears from latest radar grab to be new cells popping up ahead of those that have already formed. Got this feeling everything is going to merge into our very own home grown MCS. Make my day a give a very British middle finger to the storm stealing Frenchies Posted Image

For anyone thats living along the south coast, I'd keep your eye on Cherbourg area from around now for some imports. Some Convection currently going on here.

I did hear a few rumbles earlier from our home growns, some very impressive structures too! All that has moved North from here now and the temperature is not back on the rise.
