re the radar plots, currently the heaviest echoes would track just east of the I of W and out near the Wash but the whole thing is probably undergoing subtle changes which may edge it slightly west of that track?

post 494 from Nick F is something you should read

Awaiting the MCS in Basingstoke, tempting fate by holding a barbecue while the rain starts. Thanks goodness for the gazebo.

If we won't get thunder from this, we will certainly get intense downpours.

Well I am away clubbing tonight in Newcastle and not looking forward to getting drenched in the wee small hours - wouldn't be so bad if there was a lightning storm to go with it but heavy torrential rain minus a thunderstorm does not float me boat!

I didn't see the point you were making. The "I'm going to miss out" posts from some are quite tiresome, reverse psychology perhaps?

I'm merely giving my thoughts on the situation.

the point being it's a nowcast situation not a forecast or a 'I'm not happy as I haven't got a storm right now, therefore I wont' situation

Nearly all the electrical activity is coming from the eastern half of the storm under Brighton where there's less rain.

London could on course for a direct hit.

Not had a drop of rain yet but It's gone eerily dark here, really feels like the calm before the storm!

Hasn't it just!!!

Of course its not set in stone, it never is. Anywhere to the south still has a chance of something thundery as there are more storms forming from France.

I was only giving my own thoughts on where the most thundery activity risk will be. Surely we are allowed to do that on a forum?

based on what exactly?.....charts? hi-res modelling? radar watching? satellite imagery?  or just a 'glass half empty' philosophy?........sorry Ben, but it was a throw away one-liner with no further info to back it up

I've heard distant rumbles of thunder, but nothing as usual too exciting here yet :)
