Yay, Artemis 1 is finally on the way to the Moon.
Successfully launched in the last few minutes.  Spectacular sight in
the night sky.

Did you see it? I hadn’t realised it was being launched today and missed it….

I was lucky. I didn't know in advance  .. turned on the BBC morning news and there were pics of the rocket and
they said it was about to launch ... short countdown and it flew into the pitch black sky.
What a 'flame' !!   Please see BBC link for video.

Artemis Orion has sent us a picture of home.
Wow.  How precious that little blue ball is.

The Orion capsule has safely returned to Earth.
Parachutes into the ocean a few minutes ago.

A 1.4 million mile round-journey for Orion and from the preliminary telemetary-date it looks like it was off-target by only a few tens of meters. Hopefully it won't be too long before the life-support systems are installed & tested, before NASA aims for a crewed flight ahead of Starship.

The Geminids are putting on a great show tonight, I've seen 4 in 10 minutes.

Glad you’ve seen some 👍🏼. I did look out last night but only from the bedroom window….unfortunately it’s just too cold to stand outside to watch, so not seen any 🙁

Yey, just seen one!!! Phenomenally clear sky tonight. Still too cold to stand outside for long, so I’ll settle for just the one geminid 💫☺️

I was really annoyed to have missed this again due to cloud, just like when Saturn and Jupiter were close 15 months ago.

The weather in this country is a nightmare for astronomy!

Venus & Jupiter are looking great with plenty of breaks between the clouds here, a shame my old D3100 has finally 'given up' after a decade but the old Fujifilm has just about managed to get a worthy snap.

Just seen this from my garden tonight…..the small orange object. Looked like a flame, like a lit lantern but it moved faster than ‘floating’. Could it have been a meteorite? Or rocket launch? (Can’t find anything on Google for that).

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/us-news/breaking-nasa-announces-astronauts-who-29620260

NASA has announced the four-person crew for the Artemis II mission, which will set the stage of the first woman and person of colour to step on the moon, as well as paving the way for the future of long-term human exploration missions to the moon, and eventually Mars

How exciting !

It’s beautifully clear out there tonight & surprisingly not cold.

Venus is incredibly bright, sitting quite low in the sky, in a WNW direction 🌟

Wow, what a treat to see the Super Blue Moon tonight.
It's stunning here, just over the rooftops.  So big and bright.

😊
