I'm sure there'll be plenty of snow left tomorrow, Fizz. The temperature doesn't look like getting much above 3c this evening, and then only for a few hours, before colder air comes in behind the cold front. I think it'll be Saturday night or into Sunday before most of the snow is gone.

There's still 12cm of snow lying here and the temperature has only got above 0c in the last few minutes, currently standing at 0.1c.

Oo-er that's good to know.

Whereabouts would be a good area to head to (ie nearest town/village)?

Whats with all there reports of -5s, we only just touched 0 because the stupid cloud refused to do one yet again. No -5 here since March 2013, and no -7 since Dec 2010. Cannot remember such a long spell without a really cold night.

Urban warming in the town.

Felt raw today in the strong wind temps maxed at 5.6c just light drizzle.

Bits of snow/ice left.

12Z GFS uppers from Thurs 29th are pants! I need dark blue thicknesses (518) and -10 uppers at least for snow off a northerly, long way off yet, so hopefully chances of upgrades

Not the approximate location, no. Can't see an address on the website. The Weatherobs map seems to locate it on Kettlebrook Road, near Widney Manor Golf Club.

Why would you like to pay it a visit?

Bish

Thanks Bish,

I was interested in what equipment they have to become an automatic recording station, plus the locality in terms of trees, topograpy, houses, etc. Also if they are downwind of the golf course on a cold night it could give lower readings.

I have found out thattemps  in my garden can vary about 2C from one postion to another depending upon weather conditions and prevailing wind direction.

I have sited it as far as I can away from trees and the house, but it still gets some heating during the middle of the day, from direct sunlight. So I know its not purfect when the sun shines, which is the reason I never quote during the middle of the day and when the sun is actually shining on the unit. I have designed a sun shield, but it doesn't make too much difference. I have thought of positioning it on a sheltered east north east facing house wall where there is shade for 95% of the day.  However then the rain recording and wind speed recording units will be incorrect.

So I don't know if that is acceptable or will give lower readings of temp  than should be recorded.. I just wanted to chat to someone who  may know about these sort of things.

Anybody know or can give advice on here?

MIA

Why don't we all just forget about winter then and not look for forward >>>regarding any future cold or even snow events..... :cold:

If you want to dream, just hibernate and we'll see you in the spring :p

Anywhere between Wirksworth and Buxton above 300m ( 1000 feet) should still have a snow cover.

Hi MIA,

Not sure if you've already checked it out, but Netweather has an entire subforum devoted to weather stations and equipment which might be of some help:

https://forum.netweather.tv/forum/70-weather-stations-and-equipment/

:)

Would that be the fantastically-named Sara Blizzard by any chance?

She clearly has an extremely short fuse:
