Haw haw haw. References also being made in the MOD thread to Wales doing particularly well.

I really do feel bad for our long-suffering Southwestern friends, though. Perhaps we should share some of our (potential) snow with them?

Completely off-topic but I've had an entertaining ten minutes with this:

Just click on the map if you want to find a place's altitude.

Slightly surprised to find that I'm at a higher elevation than Brecon and that Merthyr town centre is barely higher than Nelson.

Heavy hail showers here with the odd flake of snow/soft hail perhaps thrown in for good measure. I think we will see quite a few surprise dustings tomorrow morning...

Did anybody happen to catch Derek/Benhaz/Sue's forecast on BBC Wales?

It makes me sad that Derek is such a lover of mild.

I have noticed a lot that Derek is a mild ramper, just look at his twitter account, people askign abotu weather for tuesday and he was saying sleet/rain to many who saw a couple of cm of snow.

But in terms of cold as snowyowl said, some don't like it and we must remember it can prove very dangerous as well.

Yep sue Charles didn't like mentioning snow, it was for High ground. I'm sure all welsh forecasters are mild lovers! Derek especially.

Perfect, thanks worldairgroup.

I understand that cold is not popular with many and that it can prove dangerous, but I can also remember several instances where BBC Wales forecasters have downplayed cold and snow events compared to coverage by national and other regional forecasts.

It really isn't a huge issue for me, it just leaves me feeling a bit... deflated.

Was it 2010 when Derek said it'll stay mostly dry throughout south Wales and then the majority had at least a foot of snow? Prime example. Edited by Jayfromcardiff

December 18th 2010 would be a candidate, yes, given that we saw well over a foot here. But to be fair to Derek, I don't think any of the forecasts could have foreseen the narrow, intense streamer which set up that day.

But my point still stands: our regional forecasters prefer to downplay prospective snow and, I've noticed, don't go into as much detail in the general synoptic patterns as certain regional forecasters *ahem*.

Front kicked off with lots of icy goodness - followed by some loverly large wet snow flakes - which is getting heavier and heavier - still a bit wet to stick - but temp is dropping too

Where in Ponty are you, Andy?

I've noticed several times that you've seen snow while here, further up the valley, it's been rain or sleet at best.

The difference in altitude is to blame, obviously.
