Warmest is probably around the low-mid 40's Celsius, in one of the many Greek Islands I've visited, most likely warmest in Crete or Cyprus.

Coldest was probably around the -15C mark, in January 2010, when nearby Woodford recorded -17.6.

    +41c in Dubai Sept 1996

    -42c (-50c windchill ) Edmonton Alberta March 2011

Wow, your coldest temperature was in March? How long were you in Canada, CM? I always thought that the western half of the US/Canada had peak cold in Dec/Jan, with the Eastern half generally colder in Jan/Feb.

I'd love to visit Furnace Creek in summer. I'll make sure I get round to it at some point. Likewise, I've got to one day visit Oymyakon or Verkhoyansk in winter.

(I'd actually like to visit Dome A in Antarctica, but I'm not sure how likely that is...)

I lived in Canada for nearly 6 years. Generally your assumption is correct Dec and January are usually the coldest months of the year in Western Canada with November and March the snowiest. However March 2011 was the coldest for nearly a century and the -42c came on the 1st of March

Hottest for me was 45 C on a thermometer in the shade at Lindos, Rhodes, during the heatwave that killes hundreds and had half the countryside aflame in the 80's. Also had extreme heat in Seville in July 1997 but don't know how hot it was. Most uncomfortable though was 37C with high humidity in July 1988 in Toronto [their highest temp for 50 years]. We tried to play golf that morning but had to give up by the 7th to retire to the bar.

Coldest -23C in Chamonix, France and Schladming Austria, both on skiing holidays.

3 times I hit -20C in Highland Perthshire, all in a 5 year period. Januaries 1979, 82 and 84. The same station also hit -20C in late December 2009 also but I missed it by a couple of days.

Thixendale, now thats a name from the past. Played cricket there many times. Great part of the world. I can see how low temps can occur there sheltered beneath the Wolds.

Upper 90s F many days throughout summer1976 (we still mostly thought in Fahrenheit back then) in South Liverpool.  Lowest I have experienced, -10C air temp, water temp 0C, in Speedos only, on 10th December '10, River Nene at Islip - as in my avatar.

Not completely sure, but would say 35*C is probably the hottest I've experienced - back in July 2006

The coldest temperature I have experienced would probably be -12*C (which was either achieved in December 2010 or January 2010 - can't fully remember).

Hottest probably about 42c in Turkey although in dry air so surprisingly comfortable.

I've experienced mid to high 30's in Florida and Mexico with the humidity making it feel almost unbearable.

Never been to a cold country in winter so would imagine about -12c is my lowest although I have experienced temperatures as low as -35c in the back of a refrigerated vehicle on many occasions as part of my job and that certainly is a shock to the system.
