I'm here!

I think this thread may get active towards this evening, I suppose tomorrow's trough will bring showers/thunderstorms into the area tomorrow.

Interesting drive today and a lovely time at Kingston Lacy National Trust property plus Ansty Pick Your Own, both highly recommended.

Pretty obvious where the torrential rain had fallen last night with a lot of debris across roads anywhere 5 miles S/SE/E of here. It's reminded me of how often back in the early Net Weather days that Chaser UK would tell me of storms moving up from the South coast and diverting NE rather than continuing North and therefore heading East of the Warminster/Westbury side of Salisbury Plain.

I think most of todays convective activity will be reserved for areas north of our region (ie West Mids, Northern England), especially in terms of any thundery activity later.

Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset & up into Gloucs will see some showers, but nothing more than that IMO as the core of convective energy is further north, along with the timing of peak solar heating.

Could be a lurvely warm, sunny day for C/S England, Hampshire etc.

Thoroughly wet here at Bude this morning as a chain of very heavy showers trundle their way NE across the area. Signs of electrification too further down in Cornwall.

Crash bang wallop here in Gloucester.

Extremely gusty batch of showers came through with hail and the thunder is banging away over in the Cotswolds as usual.

Cheers !

Keep watching the Southern tip of the trailing lines of showers/storms for further development, just when I think the line may miss my location it seems to keep forming further. Really rather need a good downpour for the garden and water butts after having only 1.5mm on Friday night.

Although only 3... That's an actual joke... I've not seen any lightning since last year (when I only actually saw some distant ones I believe)... Now I'm out of Taunton for ONE day and we get some lightning.

May as well just give up in waiting for some thunder and lightning.

We call more than one lightning strike within a 2 year period a supercell and they are so rare here that if the locals see a flash of lightning they think it is Zeus coming to smite them.

Nothing of note in Chard unfortunately. I'm not going to moan about how there hasn't been any T&L at all here over the last week or so as I could easily of jumped into my car and chased instead of waiting for something IMBY! (when I'm not working of course!) To be honest apart from some decent rain on Thursday its been a very dry week here. I did wake up around 12:30am Saturday morning to a very faint 'strobing' in the sky far to the East, but no rain at all here. Still looking forward to a storm here eventually, but it certainly;y shows how fickle storm forecasting can be. I think we need to send Mother Nature a Thunderstorm cookbook because most of the time she forgets to include an ingredient!

EDIT - Although after saying all of this, its started to rain here now...................Typical!

Torrential downpour and seem to be catching a deep red/pink echo showing on the radar. Have heard a few rumbles to the W/NW as it approached, a very typical UK summer set up with trailing troughs setting up SW-NE and slowly edging E with occasional thundery bursts.

Well I must have missed a supercell today then!!

Apparently there was also fork lightning!

The thing that takes the mick the most is that I'm in the West Midlands, where was supposedly in a better place for them, yet I still don't get anything... Grrrr

Very little of the showery rain the radar is showing as moving through this area is reaching the ground, only some large pimply drops and barely dampening the ground.

What exactly is a 'pimply drop' I cannot seem to find it anywhere in my books on weather?  :D
