Intriguing change to the local forecast on the BBC Points West lunchtime forecast mentioning the chance of lightning as scattered showers pass through overnight, presumably these will be elevated in nature. Strikes showing to the SW of Cornwall now too.

I put the kybosh on the fine day with my earlier post. It signalled the arrival of medium level instability with AC at different levels including some Cas.

Some rather beautiful cloud formations on the Jurassic coast this afternoon.  Much more humid and warmer inland, coast very pleasant with fairly strong breeze.

Had some lovely Mammatus around 7 here, looked like we might have been in for a deluge, didn't have my camera with me at the time.

Few strikes south of Cornwall at the moment, looks like a cell heading towards Dorset?

Phenomenal mammatus display here in Poole, with the unstable air passing through. No rain either before or after, just about the best display I've seen, incredible motion going on.

Saw a lightning flash about 20 minutes ago looking south along Weston beach towards uphill, clouds looked menacing like the picture posted above, drove down that way and it was spitting with rain but haven't witnessed any lightning since.

Had some good thunder and lightning earlier. I personally only saw one CG to my NW, defenitely a treat out of the blue. Looks like I only get thunderstorms when they're not forecast now!

Close but no cigar! Amazing cloudscapes to my West, now overhead. Plenty of instability and strange whirls of cloud. Amazing. No thunder or lightning observed here tonight and no rain either! Clear skies now incoming.

I think that storm was the one I could see and hear. It was sat in the ridge between Axminster and Honiton and was quite a large towering cn. Very heavy rain shower just now but short lived. Deathly still and I think I can see another cell forming off the coast at Seaton.

First line passed us and was nothing but Virga. Second line appears to fizzling away slowly so looks like a no show for even a drop of rain.

Second line is over us now, not a drop of rain, it's cloud huggin'

Amazing mammatus clouds last night. See my photos below. I even caught a Lion having a sneeky ouff in amongst them:-)

The Cirrus firmations and ice sheet looking photos were from lunchtime in Frome.

The Mammatus and Lion were near Stourhead yesterday evening.
