As a matter of interest when was the last time the Baltic was at least half frozen over?

I think large parts of it froze in the 2010-2011 winter. I don't think it freezes over entirely too often. I guess 87 would have been the last time?

Canada almost covered and a huge dump in the US Mid-West

Canada almost covered? Hardly. Snow coverage must be well behind average across North America.

Agreed, like to see Hudson Bay freeze over in the next month then snow edging south towards the Lakes, long way to go yet

Interestingly the Baltic has low salinity compared to ocean water due to run off from the surrounding land and its shallow depth, you could actually drink the water without dehydrating yourself. Apparently it has frozen completely 20 times since 1720 and the most recent time was indeed 1987 but pack ice was reported in 2010 and 2011 saw impressive coverage too.

Plenty of UK pixels, fantastic for November.

Also note the sea-ice build up on Greenland's east coast

tbf though quite a big loss of snow in Southern Sweden and Poland/Baltic states over last 24/36 hours. If the Model thread and latest Models are correct this time next week there will be a big advancement Westwards into Central Europe and maybe parts of NW Europe:)

Also now signs of sea ice build up (at last) along the Russian coastline of the Barents and Kara Seas,  It looks as if the sea ice will now be going into 'catch up' mode.

The models seem to think that the vortex will be moving to N SIberia in the next week so it will be interesting to see if the ice over there responds.

Dr. Cohen remains "bullish" about cold into Eurasia rather than North America with a stark contrast in snow cover v. the norm for the two continents:

Here is the latest snow and ice chart.

I hope that the snow will continue spreading throughout the whole of Europe.
