Well after the excitement of a couple of hours of the lightest snow you'll ever see we're back to the usual bore fest of damp, misty crap.

if this is the best that winter can offer then please sod off and allow some decent conditions in.

Thursday looks a raw day, but maybe better chance of sunny breaks, still feel the Atlantic will roll in Fri or Sat

I think I'd take a few days of the Atlantic if there's no cold on offer.

i just hate nothingness although the problem with the weather from the Atlantic is that it doesn't know when it's outstayed it's welcome.

I'd rather have the nothingness

In typical Wirral fashion there was rain earlier on in the day. In further typical Wirral fashion it's cloudy and 2 degrees

Extremely thick fog this morning. Not of the freezing variety though as it is 1.0C

Nice to wake-up with the fog down-below the valley today, around 210m-240m was the elusive blue skies. Quickly turning overcast past 10am though with the fog completely dissipating within the space of 30 minutes.

Where did those showers come from?

missed me, but from Cheshire Gap likely, too early I would think for convective heating

Still some straw clutching in the model & strat thread. Personally I really cannot see anything all that wintry coming our way. Spring in just over 5 weeks. Below sums things up....... pi$$ poor for cold. Think this Winter will be remembered as having so much potential with the NH profile but delivered diddly squat. Going to throw the towel in soon.

Me too mate. The strat thread is looking less optimistic now too. I know it's not even Feb yet but we really are stuck in a rut at the mo :nonono:

I'm convinced there is something wrong with the thermometer at Manchester Airport.

http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/maps/current?ART=karte&TYP=wetter&LANG=en&UP=0&WMO=03334&CONT=ukuk&NOREGION=0&CEL=C&TIME=std&LEVEL=140&R=310

Min temp overnight was apparently +2C yet at home in Withington (near the Christie) everything is frozen solid. Thick ice on all the pavements, and the cars are all caked in it.

My area can't be a frost hollow surely?

Its not the first time I've noticed it this winter.

There was no frost here in Hyde when I walked the dogs, but it was a beautiful sunrise. And I could see some frosty fields over mottram way.

How so..... That looks like a below average day for your location.

If you had mentioned the increased daylight then yeah.

I really hope it isn't another tease mate, as we can fare pretty well when it comes to fronts pushing up against a cold block.

I've stated in the mod thread we all deserve a change of fortune. This winter really has been exhausting in terms of looking for a proper cold spell with proper snow.

Let's hope the trend from the UKMO & ECM continue later on. The GFS can do one as it always tries to just barge the high out of the way in these situations then later backtracks into line. Interesting 12z runs coming up tonight. Back up the flaming roller coaster we go!
