TMW bringing reality to previously-cold models, I see, with the ECM about to flatten the 'block', bringing it into line with the Met Office model.:yahoo:

Not great Chris, -4 uppers will not bring snow to low levels, at least not convective style

I don't want it to, though neither do I want cold rain (mild rain, on the other hand, is what's needed down here).

Agree Chris, the ECM chart I posted vile for cold and mild fans, next chart sees snow for north only, still not that cold in the south

Tbh it's a good run from a coldie pov.

Pattern set to lock cold in and wintry showers and frosts.Becoming colder also and high doing a blocking job.

Days are getting shorter and that will aide cooling of western Europe.

Some v cold nights also.

Whilst Sidney is busy hiding his nuts....looks like we’re in for a good run of cold weather. Whilst snow maybe a little thin on the ground (lol) we won’t be far off from switching forecasting to nowcasting :)

I was in the butchers this morning looking for some nice slices of pork when the butcher asked whether I would like the undercut. I came over quite faint for a moment.

Good job he didn’t offer you extra stuffing!

Met Office/BBC Weather for next few days - nothing unusual & nothing extreme, just cold!

Could have been very different if it was late December or early January!

Meteorologist Joe Cioffi predicts (GFS) fairly quiet, warmer than average conditions for most of USA during the next 7-10 days

But he also talks about East based -NOA and a very cold trough dropping into Western Europe and the British Isles!

Snow for many parts of UK especially Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern & Central England

Nothing much in the way of snow expected for Southern Counties of England!

That's usually the way with N/NW winds.

After that, models indicating (as they would) a possible weakening of the blocking pattern and Atlantic breakthrough!

Then, cold returns to NE USA

It looks like we have a really interesting period of model watching to look forward to.

Someone in the model thread mentioned how nice or would be to get accurate model predictions to t300 regularly.

What would they take?  Just money, for more currently available tech and computing power.  Research into new tech, or a leap forward in our understanding of the fundamentals plus the other two?

Don't tell me you asked for a beast from the east and he offered you a recipe for wild boar goulash?

i was going to come here to moan about the light sprinkling of snow i woke up to...

... but actually it prevented frosted windscreens, so old mushy is quite satisfied with that!
