Jeff's stream is really exciting although he does have some annoying habits,  not to mention whoever is ringing his phone 10 times a minute. Sounds mad out there where he is though and he needs to be careful. Stream has gone down again now. :-(

Looking back at the last few minutes of footage the stream ended when he got back into the car, which suggests to me he intentionally stopped it for whatever reason. No idea what possessed him to go outside in the first place, with buildings collapsing around him and debris flying from different directions.

Well I hope he gets out of there safe.

Unfortunately in this instance huging the coast could be worst case senario, down to amount of rain fall. Not sure which would be better, taking a wind hit and storm weakening, or it stalling and dropping rain for days while the gulf keeps the huricane going. The latter is what's expected.

Indeed, I did think that there would be no light relief whichever way and this is some beast. Just hoping that people stay as safe they can.

Isn't Harvey expected to almost do a U turn and go back out to sea before making landfall again further up the coast..

Last I've seen is for it to remain virtually stationary over the next three or four days. I posted the latest gfs in the N. American thread,

Yep. The idea of a reentry into the gom has almost gone. In 3 days it due to have moved less than 50 miles in 4 less than 20 as to where it is now.

Some areas wont be accessible for several days which is saying something for the largest richest nation in the planet

Gw mentioned FEMA yesterday and trump hadn't yet appointment a head. On top of this Bloomberg has a good article on the FEMA budget how Pence et al have tried to reduce its budget, how it only has a few billion in te bank and how the cost of Harvey is estimated to be at least 50bn.

Still the wrong kind of weather for waving chain saws around to clear highways for emergency services?

No deaths reported so far, though this could of course change in the hours and days ahead

Not what you expect during a major Hurricane

On the contrary ... exactly what happens and why so many are reluctant to evacuate and leave their homes to the looters!

First pics coming out from Rockport this morning in the states showing complete destruction within and around the city, currently rescue efforts are being hindered by a lack of cellphone coverage but efforts are currently being made to clear one of the runways closest to the city to allow air-rescue services to land.
