A very cold weekend is underway in Italy, with sub-zero temperatures even in the Campidano plain, in Sardinia and snow at hilly altitudes also in the southern regions, even in the western ones. It snowed heavily in the city of Potenza, in Basilicata.
In the coming days, temperatures will rise, especially in the southern regions.

From today in Italy begins a gradual rise in temperature and next week the temperatures in southern Italy will widely exceed 22/23 degrees. However, March 2022 was cold in Italy, the coldest since 1996, especially on the Adriatic side.

The winter of 2010/11 in peninsular Italy
Winter 2010/11 is one of my favorites ... December 2010 saw various absolute frost records on the Tyrrhenian side and some monthly records, while the snowfall in Bari on December 16, 2010 was important.
However, there were also very mild phases in that month: Cagliari, in Sardinia, reached 25 degrees on December 8, 2010 ...
January 2011 was anticyclonic and not very variable but it had a cold action with snow in the hills.
February 2011 was anticyclonic and foggy but at the end of the month a quick cold action brought the snow back to low altitudes.
March 2011 had a very cold start up to Sicily and ended an eventful period, before an anticyclonic and hot April.

Winters 2003/04 and 2004/05 in Italy
The winters 2003/04 and 2004/05 are much loved by Italian weather enthusiasts.
The winter of 2003/04 saw six waves of frost, interspersed with milder periods.
The two most important were that of 23/24 December 2003 and that of mid-January 2004 but also in February there was a more northerly wave, with abundant snowfall in the Po valley.
The winter 2004/05 was very mild in December but the period from January 15 to March 3 was continuously cold and snowy at low hill altitudes (with a brief snowy episode in Rome in January 2005), so as to be called "1956 of the poor ", in analogy with the more exceptional February 1956.

I will mention some important months for my passion for weather and significant for peninsular Italy:
- December 1988, with the first freezing day for Naples since 1956, on the 16th day;
- December 1990, very cold especially in Tuscany and Umbria;
- December 1991, which in some areas is the coldest since the war;
-January 1993, a month not very cold overall but with two important cold waves and the record of frost in Bari Palese (about -6 °) and the greatest post-war snowfall in Foggia;
- December 1998, a constantly cold month;
- December 2001, a historic month in many regions;
-January 2002, with Sicilian snowfalls around 6/7;

- December 2003, with the cold spell of December 23-24
-January 2004, with the -10 which for a few hours touched Sicily;
-January 2005, due to the snowfall in Ragusa and one that affected the southeastern area of Rome;
- December 2005, with a very low minimum in Naples before Christmas;
-december 2007, very cold from 15th to 26th;
-February 2009, with a short snowfall in Palermo;
-December 2010, with the monthly frost record in Rome and some absolute records in Lazio, Campania and Calabria

In the coming days there will be a considerable thermal increase in Italy, especially in the eastern and southern regions. However, it won't be long-lasting.

In peninsular Italy a significant (albeit short-term) thermal drop is expected: it will go from 25 C in Rome and Naples today to 14/15 C on Easter day. In fact, in some places it will be the coldest Easter day since 2012, in others since 2008.

Best wishes to everyone for the Easter celebrations, extended to your families too!
It was a fairly cold Easter day in Italy, especially in the Adriatic regions but a little less cold than expected, because the bulk of the cold wave affected the Balkans.
Long-term weather patterns suggest a major heatwave in early May.

In the next few days the temperature will rise in the center and in the south but at least in the north there will be no major variations. April is expected to close below the 81/10 average in Italy, although not as sharply as March.

April should have closed slightly below the 81/10 average in Italy. There shouldn't be much news in the coming days, apart from a moderate thermal increase in southern Italy.

Few news in the next few days in Italy, with variable and sometimes rainy weather, especially in the eastern regions. However, after mid-May there could be much warmer phases, at least in the south.

In the coming days it will be hot in Italy, especially in the Tyrrhenian regions. In some cities it could be over 30 ° and the heat wave seems to be quite lasting.

In Italy it is getting hot these days, especially in the north and from Wednesday the heat will intensify also in the southern regions, reaching typical values of the end of June ... So this May 2022 will be one of the hottest, despite the first cool days in the Adriatic regions.

The heat is the protagonist these days in central and southern Italy and in the southern Balkans.
Yesterday 33 degrees in Rome, 34 in Tirana (Albania), 36 in Foggia (Puglia).
Tomorrow the greatest peaks are expected along the Adriatic coast.
It feels like July.

After a momentary attenuation of the heat (much more consistent in the north), from Tuesday 31 May temperatures in Italy will rise again, especially on the Tyrrhenian side, leading to an intense heat wave: the monthly records of June 2019 in the central Tyrrhenian regions and southerners could in some cases be beaten.

The month of May is about to end; in Italy it started cool, especially in the Adriatic regions but after the first 10/11 days it was exceptionally hot, first in the north, then in the center and south. June will start very hot, especially in the center and south.

The extreme heat is a great protagonist of the weather in peninsular Italy and will be even more so next weekend, after a short cool and disturbed break.

Arrived in North East Italy last night, some turbulence with lightening as plane landed. A very warm evening. Some very loud thunder overhead at 3.30am, shook the building! But not aware of rain particularly. Awoken to a beautiful clear sky, warm at 22C. Ready to explore Italy ????

A lovely day today in Northern Italy. Some threatening clouds this afternoon but no rain to speak of. Ended a beautiful evening & still pleasantly warm.1CC0FC31-668B-4F64-AF7D-109A6973511E.thumb.jpeg.8f33b4cd7fe5276a1ae77a426bcae872.jpeg
