Bitterly cold night last night with -5.2 in my garden weather station! Overcast day today, but bone dry too!

Hopefully this easterly really comes and we get some frontal snow for the whole Ireland and UK alike. No more marginal sleet for the far west. Though at this point in this winter, excitement for an easterly is just impossible to muster.

Once again that can be a hit and miss for western coastal county's Ireland when the frontal comes a true greeny high almost guarantees nationwide snow for Ireland.

18z was fantastic for heavy snow on Sunday but err not so good on the Easterly! ?

Haven’t checked the models MS. Is this of a showery nature or proper prolonged snow. The easterly has a real good chance but just think the models all over show late on. We could get a northerly instead. That will really be the last straw for the southern brigade. What’s tomorrow night and fro lookin* like. Cheers

Latest euro 4 coming last couple frames missing  but it looks good for tomorrow night. Think it's an upgrade.

And here's the accumulations for 9am Friday morning. Wouldn't take it too literal if not under accumulations in the North.

Tomorrow night into Friday morning is showers primarily for the usual suspects in the NW.

Sunday's looks more potent, the 18z actually had a full on low pressure system with heavy snow, but that's the 18z.

Yes you guys in north and west should do well tomorrow night / Friday morning and again Saturday night / Sunday for snow showers. Also looking likely to be more cold shots next week. We might hopefully also catch a few snow showers in the south and east in these colder spells.

This winter has really been memorable for the numerous (if short lived)  westerly / northwesterly cold spells. Even here in the southeast I have seen snow fall in 5 of those cold spells and had lying snow on several days. As I said before it reminds me of the 80s winters of my childhood.

're the easterly there are encouraging signs we could end winter with a Scandi or Greenie High and a notable cold / snowy spell ,  however I believe there is a 30 to 40 % chance things do not fall favourably - like tonight's 18z run with blocking to the north but synoptics not quite aligned to bring in the deep cold. Will be keeping the champers on ice until models are within 3 to 4 days range of showing any impending wintry nirvana from the north or east. In the meantime enjoy these polar westerly flows  and hopefully the best is yet to come.....

Sunday still looking good with a chance if snow anywhere across the Island.

Yes MS, looks good across the country, even tonight and into tomorrow some could get a bit of the white stuff.

Would be good to see the MetO coming on board for Sunday with warning, just makes it feel a bit more positive towards events shown on models.

The GFS also models an easterly with snow around the 19th of the month. Bring it on.....will cheer a fair few people up.

Rain moves in from the west tonight with some sleet/snow especially on hills. Icy conditions with snow showers will follow. A Met office warning has been issued from 10pm tongiht. Cee

Yes Sunday looking quite good but I think tonight will be a NW event mostly and would expect warning to be changed  and state the east may be much drier. From the 19th on it looks at last the snow threat increases more for the east and less for the west of Northern Ireland but that’s normal if this phantom E/NE happens. At least everybody would see a bit of action. Also the whole east coast gets involved in snow from 19th. Even for Dublin which will please a few.
