alan.duckers It's not a guarantee at the moment, from what they're saying to me, they're aiming for it, but I'd not bet my house on them getting it done in that timeframe.

Mapantz it's all running normally as far as I can see?

Edit. Scrub that. Yep does look like a number of radar sites are down.

 Paul

This whole area has been affected for quite some time

Screenshot2024-03-15211416.thumb.png.5d7854c866f140742d7b6f111a2ab427.png

It started at around 6pm, and more & more disappeared

Disappointingly, I've not had a meaningful response from the Met Office yet, but it does look like whatever the issue was has been resolved, based on the bits and pieces showing in the region which had no coverage last night. I'll keep an eye on it as the rain moves in later.

We updated the nowcast system today to be available on all three of the standard scales, so it works seamlessly on everything including the precip type display now.

Also, this week we'll be updating the lightning. We'll be switching to use the Vaisala lightning data, and as well as using their (fantastic) detection system, we'll also be able to utilise 1 minute updates when there are storms active 🌩️

The Vaisala lightning detection is now live on the V8 radar (including 1-minute updates when lightning is detected in the vicinity), and will be rolled out to other lightning detection on the site in the coming days.

No lightning at all on the radar or lightning maps?!

I see two strikes on the radar now. Not sure I would call it fantastic considering how many there have been across the south today.

There was a database error earlier, unfortunately.  Teething trouble with the new system.

Unfortunately the page you're trying to reach is no longer on the Netweather website. This doesn't mean the forecast or feature you're trying to find no longer exists, perhaps you have typed in the incorrect address or are using an old link or bookmark which has been changed.

All of the main areas on the site can be reached using the menu at the very top of this page, if you still can't find what you're looking for, please contact us and we will be glad to help.

I hope this is the right place to ask?

There still seems to be a lack of sferics. There was quite a cluster of strikes to the SW of Portland, but nothing on NW radar or lightning map.

I don't think those sferics were picked up by anything other than blitz, so I don't know if they were legit. It's picked up ones on the devon coast a short while ago fine. We are monitoring and tweaking our internal system as we go though, so will be fine tuning.

Seems to be doing a good job with the cells popping up and down this pm, picking up quite a lot of strikes.

In my opinion it is missing a lot compared to other sites I have looked at.

It might be new and need tweaking, but the old system was far more reliable.

Have you updated to the latest version of the v8 radar @Mapantz? Comparing what it's detecting with the old met office version, it's picking up a lot more strikes, from what i can see.

Yep, we're not receiving data from the met office currently, unfortunately. We've raised a ticket with them, so hopefully it'll be resolved soon. I suspect it may be a widespread issue as their own website isn't updated beyond 4pm either, the last I saw.

Same here, seems the whole UK radar has suddenly stopped. All stuck at 16:00.

Mapantz The met office system didn't either, beyond a solitary strike around lunchtime. Whether that's a combined weakness or a combined strength, I'm not too sure, but the boltek-based systems are certainly capable of showing false positives.

We are monitoring both systems right now, though, and aren't wedded to sticking with the new one, should it transpire that staying with the meto one is the best route.
