Storm Jorge named by AEMET (spain)

#StormJORGE AEMET the Spanish Met service have name a low pressure which will affect the UK this weekend. Wind warnings for northern Spain with widespread rain = #borrascaJorge. There are UK warnings for heavy rain already. Will be windy too

 

SO this is not following the collection of Ireland/UK/Netherlands names - which would have given Ellen. As AEMET named first , it will be #StormJorge

Given this farcical approach to naming storms, as Ellen was missed out because this is a southerly tracking low, do we go back to Ellen for the next one, that misses Ireland, and Iceland, and the Netherlands and Spain but means the MetO get to name it?

Ouch if the wind is strong enough to be named that far south, it might have stronger winds than the one before Denis.

Other lows have affected the UK and Ireland, this season we have had Elsa. Spain is in a group with France and Portugal.

UK with Ireland and Netherlands. It has a name, does it matter. Some people named another random low StormEllen

This weekend's wet and windy weather will be labelled #StormJorge (gutteral hO-hay)

I think my first chart is a bit confusing. The main big low centre near UK is named #BorrascaJorge but it seems a seconadry low from that will affect NW Spain at the weekend. As the UK has yellow rain warnings and wind ones, it will be referred to as #StormJorge here. Also now Met Eireann have issued Orange wind warnings for Saturday.

More wet and windy weather this weekend from a deepening low pressure. Spanish Met service got in first with the naming so it is Jorge not Ellen. There are more warnings.

Who would of thought naming deep low pressure systems can be made as complicated as these meteological organisations make it. Not sure what is more farcical, this or VAR!?

I suppose if you live in the high risk flood areas, with the risk of more prolonged further flooding and flood defences being over topped you wouldn't give a flying fridge magnet that it has a name.

“Yet Another Storm” would be good to use every time.  To be honest who cares what the thing is called? Information about what where, when and how severe is all most people want.

Lets hope that Jorge doesn't flood places which have been through flooding recently.

Thought the idea behind naming was to get the name on hashtag to increase public awareness via social media. If the UK has a protocol and list of names the public expect, introducing a name from another country list is likely to cause confusion and defeat the purpose.

J's in Spanish at the beginning of the word are usually pronounced as a 'hy' so Jorge would be Hyor-Hay.

Just did some research and some Spanish people pronounce it like that, it can either be 'Hor-Hay' too.

I've been pronouncing it as gorge lol, only way I'll remember how to spell it.
