I quite like heavy, prolonged rainfall as long as it doesn't cause problems...I find it quite cosy when you're inside listening to it. Birmingham has been soggy, but most of the rain has been light/moderate and just annoying.

I like it because it keeps all the yobs and their yobby kids off of the streets.  Nice, peaceful and above all, quiet!

And, yeah, it's more of a persistent drizzle up here, not even a bit of a breeze either.  Not really much of a 'storm' this far North, more like just a normal Autumn drizzle/rain front.

I wouldn't put it as drizzle across here in S Cheshire but I agree no wind so far.

Yes, what is it they say, about 1mm rain is 1cm of snow on average.  Some parts would have over 1 metre of snow by the end of tomorrow!

not sure about that? for low levels anyway, warm fronts/mild sectors in the mix, no real cold air in place before the low arrived

Rain has rapidly developed over the SE/London. These areas are looking a long period of rain!

Macclesfield is currently under a mass of orange echoes according to the radar, and yes, it is absolutely tipping it down.  News at 10 on ITV said that there are 20 flood alerts nationwide.

All the navigable rivers have gone on strong stream or flood advice now......basically, use slack long lines on your boats and hope the banks dont go under!!!

Thames, Wey, Warwickshire Avon, Somerset Avon, Nene, Great Ouse, Soar, Trent, Severn.

Never seen them all go at once from a standing start.

Where's the best place to see rainfall totals data over the last few days? Given I normally moan about how the majority of the rain avoids North Hants, on this occasion that has definitely not been the case! I'd be interested to see how my area has compared to the highest totals.

The Met Office has announced that Sat 3rd October was the wettest day on record for UK wide rainfall. Records date back to 1891 with this day seeing moderate, persistent and widespread rain following Storm Alex .

Just been reading about this. I was working on a bridge over the River Swale near Leeming and between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning the river rose 15ft in just 36 hours. It dropped just as quickly but it showed the amount of rain we had.

didn't seem that wet here, rained aye, but felt like ordinary January day, Mon and Tues after were wetter
