surprise snow here too , we now have a snow covering on top of the skating rink that used to be Queensferry

Twentieth air frost and what a frost.... -8.5°C.

And then we had the dying Edinburgh shower pass over and light snow at -7C. Not that often I can type those words.

Unexpected snaw is the best type ae snaw.

Risk of rain/sleet/snowfall to low levels continues through the first half of the week - NE/E/SE obviously higher risk due to the forecast wind direction. 
Hopefully these showers move much further inland so the rest of us can join in! 

IMBY keeping an eye on this - best bet for snowfall further West at the moment!

Friday 15 Jan - Friday 29 Jan

During the middle of January unsettled conditions are likely to affect southern and central parts of the UK with drier weather expected for the north and west. Whilst generally remaining colder than average some milder interludes are possible in the south. Toward the end of the month colder conditions become more probable, this bringing an increasing chance of snow.

Even Braemar is struggling for the white stuff. Tomintoul gets a fair bit bit of snow if you don't mind the commute.

Still marginal here at 1.5c this morning with a slushy dusting in the cooler shaded areas. Lying snow level  falling  to  about 150 metres now as can just be seen on the hills to the north across the Firth.Certainly feels and looks  like the period around New  Year of old and if it follows the script of an old fashioned winter  of the sixties and seventies the cold will build to a very frosty sunny February possibly extending to mid March followed by quite a few wintry incursions from the north and east in April and May.

Surprised by all the snow reports here this morning, nice to see.... Looks here as if someone emptied a bean bag onto the frost.... So I can report a bean bag shower at some point overnight here....

What a nice surprise this morning a covering of snow...all white again.

A low of -3.7deg/C so no where near as cold as some have seen...I'll take this cold frosty weather over mild rain and pish any day.

Happy new year everyone, hope its a better one for you and yours.

Ha! Of all the mornings to have a long lie-in, I picked this one to miss the surprise snaw here. Quite a freaky week here to be on the right side of these for once, lack of strong surface wind off the Forth has helped a lot I would say. Don't think we get away with that after today, so I'm enjoying the beauty while I can. Front of the hoose, back of the hoose.

Not a bad day so far.

Some decent sunny spells, moon looking lovely earlier...

Overnight low of -1.3c, calm conditions and even a dusting of snow first thing...

Temperature unfortunately up to 3c already and all of the snow has gone; light shower of rain ongoing, will clear soon.

Kids welded to their video calls so can get things done round the house!

Definitely a day where height matters. Went for a walk down by the river Don in Alford and there was barely a dusting of wet snow, that was after clearing a cm or so of fluffy stuff from our driveway before taking the car out. From Alford you could see the snow line just a little higher on the surrounding hills.

Currently 1.1/0.5C with snow showers breaking up the sunny spells. No doubt there will be a thaw of the snow in the d'un, but the shaded areas may survive again.

Start stop best describes winter up here so far. No significant snow or cold yet, the last snow plough i remember was during first week of December. 

Currently 2C and showery rain.

The upstairs back window is a different story. The Pentlands are behind there somewhere! 

In all my life I have never wanted such a beautiful, living thing, to meet such a horrible chainsaw inspired death!!

Well, the latest met office forecast is uninspiring for here for the foreseeable; now frequent rain showers outside.

Love the way they don't commit to telling you what kind of precipitation will be falling, even they are uncertain.
