Decent day in the Pentland hills yesterday, very strong winds on the summit Carnethy hill.

The recent run of dubious weather ended today - mainly sunny with light winds and mild (currently 9c).

A very brief but strong burst of aurora around midnight last night.  Naff photo from the phone, aurora was gone by time the proper camera was set up.

Oh, look at that, consecutive posts on consecutive days.

That tells you everything about how featureless the weather is just now.

Talking of which, today's featureless grey sky for the record...

image.thumb.png.c8a1279b8689ecae6a198f5f9abee427.png

Light winds, dry and currently 7c.

Anecdote of the world situation just now from the other half - went to Costco yesterday and in front of them at the checkout was someone with a full trolley of sunflower oil.

Going by the overheard conversation between shopper and till operator, apparently stockpiling for the sunflower oil shortage later this year.

About as telling as the fact that the £99 credit card limit at the Tesco Pay at Pump is getting ever closer to be reached when you fill up.

Another very very windy day especially the afternoon with a high windchill at 6c.Back to winter but at least it was dry.Hills over 2000feet had fresh cover. Lots of huge drifts still left on Ben Wyvis. Spring can be a long time coming here.

Ah Aberdeenshire Permagloom™, how we love thee (not)....

image.thumb.png.be42c60691038868c61ba1245237ff06.png

Light NW wind, cool (5c currently) with occasional pulses of light rain dampening surfaces.

Dull and damp here too for most of the day. Thought that it may have cleared earlier but still a layer of cloud. Temp down to 4C though so when skies do clear a frost looks likely.

1.8C here currently a with the prospect of waking up to a slight frost. If the MetO forecast is correct the recent permagloom should be consigned to the past, with a decently sunny few days incoming.

Ah, back to something more springlike.

Mostly sunny with a fresh SE wind making things feel a bit cooler than the current 9c.

Some nice cloudscapes as well.

Yep, a most passable days weather so far.

Some sleety showers recently, strong gusty wind and 4c. Very much a winters day here for a few hours this afternoon.

Not a bad week, some grey and drizzle, yesterday was nice, today was a mixture of sun and showers.

Last night we went up Loch Long to see an impressive aircraft carrier that is parked up.

Heavy rain turned to sleet and driving hail this afternoon with couple of heavy wet snow showers this evening giving a slight slushy covering.  Bitter in the wind.

This morning was very breezy and quite mild, then through the afternoon there were a couple of epic (rain and hail) showers with temp plummeting from 8C to 3C. Frosty now.

When you've not done a telly shift in 2 years, I'm thankful that the computer is working and it's not snowing today. STV Sunshine

Lovely sunny morning again, feels much easier to get out of bed and off to work when it's like this.

Meanwhile here in 2022, this morning was my 32nd air frost at -0.3C. And now it's a beautiful day wall-to-wall sunshine and currently 11.7C.

Not really delivering anything interesting at ground level but of a little bit of interest from a meteorology standpoint, a cold pool breaks off from the main south easterly flow across Europe and comes to us for a weekend trip  animyne4.gif animrjx5.gif

Still +10.1°C in Stornoway right now, and tomorrow's forecast is for a warm day for some locations.

Latest WRF is showing that temps around and above +17°C are possible on NW Scotland coasts & along the S Moray Firth. It will be interesting to see what values will be reached.

WE have numerous signs of badgers everywhere . our dog barks every night as she hears them pass the house and when she gets out late at night she is always listnening and sniffing the air and quite often the hairs  on her back rise and she growls.

Taking part in SASA survey for Scottish Government in the next week or two to put across my message that they are wiping out all ground living wildlife be it oyster catchers ,hares or hedgehogs. They are coming to photograph all the evidence I have.

We're also almost overrun with badgers, i come across at least a couple a week when i'm driving in or out, they dug out a colony of ground nesting bees last summer and one even climbed onto a table to overturn a planter to get at the tulip bulbs my gf had planted!

No hedgehogs or hares spotted for a while sadly and have never seen a single rabbit in all the time we've lived here oddly - not sure why...

A glorious day today, cool wind but lovely and warm in sheltered sunshine. Looking forward to the rest of the weekend.

Lying in bed looking out at a lovely sunny garden and fields again.

We've definitely had badgers in the garden in the past but I've never actually seen one, and no further evidence since we fenced the garden off completely. They did dig up a bumblebee nest one year too, which annoyed me. Never seen a hedgehog here, and in fact it must be over 10 years since I've saw one, running along a path in the estate we lived in Kemnay.

In nearly 4 years in this house, surrounded by fields, I've seen a grand total of one rabbit. That was hiding in the bushes at the front of the house soon after we moved in, and didn't look in the best of health. Occasionally see a hare, but still a rare sight.

Fantastic anticyclone view from this morning's satellite images, with clear skies on almost every locaiton in the UK and Ireland.

Temperatures will rise in Scotland today, with possible 17+°C in some areas. Windy in the West, with chances for 40+mph gusts over the W Hebrides.

Morning all,

Great to see the sun out again. Chilly start, +2c the low here in Pittenweem but -2c at more sheltered Leuchars. We won’t see high temperatures here because of the onshore wind and the sea temp currently being 7c.
