What a horrible wet and wild day. 9c when I left home at 8am and pishing it doon

Currently in the central belt where its been grey and damp the last couple of days, but it was a very nice drive up the M6/M74 on Monday. Bright, sunny and clear then, with no road closure incidents unlike the trip south. 

A rather boring forecast through to the end of the weekend at least by the looks of it unfortunately.

Just back from a walk around Dunecht estate here in Aberdeenshire - lovely day for a walk - calm and feeling a bit milder than of late. Still some snow/ice patches kicking about in the most shaded areas. 
I have been avoiding the model thread as it appears to be focussed only on the lack of any wintry weather potential for the south east of the UK. 
This has undoubtedly felt more like a traditional December weather wise in Aberdeenshire with significant laying snow and cold minimum temps. Takes me back to winters growing up in Nairn in the 70’s and 80’s.

Very very wet overnight  but dry cloudy above today.  Temperature up to 6c early afternoon. Interestingly we seem to be  on the edge of cooler air with fresh snow down to 1500feet on the north side of the Firth and over 2000 feet to the south of us.

Nothing like as mild as some forecasts here this morning. Max was 7C and back down to 3C now. Sunset was nice but I don't think my phone picked up the colours very well.

Have to agree as we are now down to 2c with clear skies and a ground frost. After a prolonged period of low temperatures in mid winter the ground is now very cold and any night that is free of cloud cover soon results in  a ground frost. Have seen it many times over the years temperatures being forecast higher than they actually turn out to be.

Just put the recycling bins out - clearly been a late frost here as everything is iced up. Wasn’t expecting that this morning given forecast of milder temps.
Last few days of the holidays  before back to work on Monday.

Dull, chilly, calm, patchy drizzle. Calm before the storm perhaps.

Definitely a frost this morning with the air temp briefly dropping below zero around 9am. Started bright with little cloud but clouded over now, still only 1.8C. Surprised to find, after being away for a week, there's still patches of snow surviving from the falls in early Dec, mainly along the roadsides and field margins where it had drifted. Still one decent patch in our garden too, which I'm thinking of renting out to frustrated skiers given the lack of snow in the Alps. 

Still a cool and changeable outlook going forward, but maybe frustratingly not quite cool enough for the Scottish ski resorts?

Absolutely appalling with gales set to start in 4 hours in the western Isles 

 

Even more disgraceful when the model they use is showing gusts roughly 85mph + for the western Isles also and pretty much Scotland wide will experience gale force gusts through tomorrow. I'll do a bit more detail on it after the 12z has ran

0c start to the day with lots of ice.Got a few outside jobs done if tomorrow is going to be wild. Dull but dry till late afternoon now wet and wind rising.Still only 5c

Don't suppose I'm the only one, but I'm just starting to hear the rushing in the trees and shrubs outside now from indoors, which is a fair sign the wind's picked up beyond a gentle breeze. Could get noisy through the night...

Wild 'n' woolly up here! Also very mild. Looks set to be like this for the next 5 - 6 days, so we are basically back to normal Skye weather now. Ho Hum.

UKMO has the higher gusts for the western Isles with around 85mph again, that should be an Amber warning zone 

I'd estimate the proper gusts will begin pushing in by around 1/2 am 

 

Wide coverage of 55mph gusts AT LEAST, I think there will be a kinda foehn effect with higher gusts in Fife and a few other areas that usually get the higher temps with foehn setups.

Completely baffled how they've reached that conclusion are we really at the point where the warning system is so incompetent that such gust speeds ^ don't even warrant a yellow warning for mainland Scotland

The second animation even shows the high gusts affecting areas across the mainland! Ridiculous from what's supposed to be the leading weather agency.

I'll predict that during the highest of the gusts we will have the right to ask why wasn't this even considered to qualify as the first of the named storms?
