Amazing aurora tonight

Last major aurora  here was around 2005 in October as Aorora Storm started her Astrophysics  course. Then the arc went all the way to the southern horizon and turned night in to day    Stunning.

Prior to that the last one to compete with last night's  red aurora was November 1985 with a red arc overhead which if you looked up had had a spiral pattern which  looked like it went on into infinity. Very memorable

Morning all.   Absolutely gutted that I missed the aurora last night...I've never seen one.  I switched over to the webcam when Snowlover 2 posted it because I can see Kelty in the distance.   Too late though, as we had hazy cloud at that point.   The picture that Quinach posted was just breathtakingly beautiful.  Thank you Q.

Anyhoo, cloudy this morning here but I think it may break up as it has that look about it.

Apart from the lights last night, there are some cracking photos out there of hoar frost and snow on the tops from yesterday.

I see the phone keeps posting alerts for the aurora, going to be a miracle to see any today though.

Yep, back to grade A+ Aberdeenshire Permagloom™, devoid of any meaningful features.

I’ve not even seen northern lights this good in Canada.

Arghh gutted I missed the aurora, everywhere is overcast now so don't think I'll catch it tonight either. 

Stonked up Ben Chonzie today, hardly a patch of snow to be seen. It was nice and quiet though.

Not often there are two consecutive days of red alert status for the aurora (one ongoing at the moment).  Scottish weather really can be a pain.

Cracking photos of last night’s Aurora everyone, sadly I missed it as the alarms didn’t go off on my phone.  Doubt I’ll see anything here tonight but if alarms go off, I’m heading out west to Braemar in the hope of getting photos.

Gie chilly under the Aberdeenshire Permagloom tho, weather station died at start of month so no idea what it’s feeling like out there.

Missed the aurora on Sunday night too, which was very annoying, and last night was far too cloudy. 

Looking ahead, I'll take back what I said the other day, next week is looking potentially quite chilly after all. Cold enough for some snow in places, but not expecting any of us to be digging ourselves out.

Feels like ages since I logged in here! Had hoped to see some March snowfall on the models but WXCharts suggests a bit colder with not much more than some coastal snow showers. To be fair I haven't looked too hard so I might have missed something more exciting!

February really has been one of the most boring months weather wise I can remember!

A'noon all.   Should I really bother posting this?   I thought yesterday the cloud was going to shift and it becoming quite a nice afternoon...It didn't!

I had to go to Ullapool to get out from under the murk, and it looked like half of Inverness had the same idea - don't recall seeing the A835 ever being so busy on a winter's evening!

Was it worth it? Hmmm..        possibly not.

Having regard to the above nature seems to be taking on board the potential  for bad weather with six  roe deer each  in separate grass fields getting any greeness they can .Both groups of six have been there all day today in spite of me moving round feeding cattle. Bird feeders are mobbed too. Currently dull calm and 5c

Interesting weather ahead, there is a mention at the end of the clip for “some disruptive snow by the start of next week” for the north and east
