Lightning here too, close by too

Definitely more your side of town but the couple of flashes so far haven't half lit up over the hills!

Ah rain finally after 3 weeks when there were only a couple of short lived showers. Never seen the grass so yellow at this stage of June.

The Real action is gonna start ASAP just see the radar around Sunderland + Newcastle and combine with the explosive cloud heights increasing 👀

Suspect we might be a bit far North for the worst of it but just spent the last hour putting old sheets of corrugated tin over my firewood stacks. It's lovely and dry considering a lot of it was only split in March!

Heavy rain now falling and a fresher feel all of a sudden. Really can’t remember the last time we had notable rain here. Ground is solid and grass is brown. Really glad to get the garden watered!

No rain here yet but not far away now. 16C with fresh Easterly breeze. . Attached are dry spots in Scotland so far in June from STV weather. May change somewhat  in the next 12 hours. I am just across the road from Invergowrie so will be pretty close to their total of 2 mms.

One word - petrichor.

Was going to comment the same thing, really noticeable outside at the moment thanks to a rapid shift this evening from sunny conditions to full permagloom and high humidity levels.

A truly gorgeous weekend of sunshine, light winds - and what warmth, max of 23c yesterday and today.

Low cloud kept trying to spoil things during the day today but only finally managed to take over since 7pm...

Some lovely cars at the Castle Fraser steam rally today, oh to have the money to indulge in classic automobiles...

Good six hours or so of rain going by the security camera, ending around 8am.

But truth be told, needed a lot more - shocked to see that the ground is still powder dry just one inch under the surface.

Fingers crossed for some decent shower activity this week otherwise the drought situation is going to get worse.

Mild though, overnight low of 13.7c, currently 15c.

Must have gotten pretty windy at some point during the night going by the wind damage on some of the clematis.

Only around 10mm fell around Alford by the looks of the local weather stations, welcome, but far from what most forecasts were predicting. As Quinach said, we could do with more top ups this week.

An Incredibly humid feel despite the lower temperatures (currently 17.4c). Should still reach about 21c today.

Welcome rain overnight, 17.4mm according to the nearby SEPA site. As others have said, it’s a start but only that really.
More rain forecast for tomorrow so hopefully a fairly wet week eases things.

Summarising the SEPA chart at

Limit of heaviest overnight rain is approx SE of line Fraserburgh to Ardnamurchan, and additionally coastal Wick to Inverness.  Highest I can find (stand to be corrected) is 45.6mm at Drum.  Edinburgh area generally 30mm, and Glasgow 20mm.  Dryer areas with less than 10mm Haddington and Thornhill.

River Esk level has risen from 18cm to 49cm, but the Annan only from 36cm to 38cm.  More to do with the nature and length of them rather than rainfall distribution.  Despite around 30mm of rain here, the Dryfe appears unchanged from yesterday.

Got between 15 and 18mms here last night depending on which w/s to use. Bit less than expected generally I think. Looking like a shower maybe on the way now in a brisk SW breeze. Can't remember the last time we had that wind direction?

edit. Think that the 15 reading was since midnight.

Nearest station (Torduff) reporting 33mm which is probably about on the money with the warning.

Warmest day of the year here (23c) as the wind switches to SWly after what feels like weeks of an easterly influence. Sunny skies this afternoon.

Looks like about 28mm locally from last night’s rain.

Very surprised to find half a gale blowing this afternoon, must have misread forecast.  Pea netting down, sweetcorn stems snapped and poly tunnel door hinges broken (got used to just leaving the door free and open).  Quite a lot of leaves falling, but trees were already in drought stress.

Very warm and sticky here this afternoon at 22C. Some heavy sharp showers came in on the Sw wind, one very heavy. The cat thought that it was safe under the bush but wasn't as as it turned out. Still sticky now at 20.2C.
