Same, midday and the ground already looks like we've had snowfall because of all the frost that's built in the last 3 days. Should hopefully stick fine.

Looks a lot like winter today, took this earlier. Still a fair bit of frost about.

Still -1.6°C at 1pm, with mist / very low cloud, that is quite something for the second day of December, looks to be colder than 7th January 2021! Might be the coldest December day since 2010.

This cold spell, a good way to describe it, is also like a toned down version of 2010; started at the same time, some very cold nights further north, now ice days, and most of the snow so far near the coast also further north. I don't recall more than a cm of snow in early December 2010 either here, just an amazing display of hoar frost / rime on the 7th.

Can someone explain to me how icon has very heavy snowfall across central midlands tonight but then most of the accumulations are further north lol🤔!!put aside the pennines aswell please!!

Temperatures at the surface are probably modelled to not be cold enough for the snow to stick for long. Based on snow events in the last 3 years and the readings on my station, when the temperatures were above 0.5C it had a hard time sticking for long, and above 0.8C to 1C usually doesn't stick at all. The models I think are showing temperatures to be around 1C when the snow arrives tonight, so that could be why. Maybe in reality the temperature will be colder and the snow will stick, we will see soon enough!

Automated forecast lowering the temperature and looking more wintry for Monday 🤔

IMG_3129.jpeg

Met office says rainfest for me even today, problem is its current temperature for here is already 2C above reality while BBC is 3c above. I don't know what I'm missing but I just don't see anything but snow today and I'm quietly confident for Monday too.

Well the sun came out earlier and my temps very briefly rose to 1c

now that sun is hiding behind a few clouds it’s now dropped to - 0.6c

at least the suns briefly put some charge back into my station’s batteries 😉

Temps barely made it above 0C today, frost didn't shift if off a fair few trees, got a feeling that this little burst late autumn/early winter of may leave a few grubby slushy feet.

Max at -1.5c here dp at -1.9c. of course not a guarenteed ice day as temps will rise later as precip closes in. Places that have reached higher temps north west of here are still forecast snow whereas rain here which is part of the headache for forecasters. I Still expect an entirely rain event here which will turn to ice on contact with surfaces. The first hour or so could be very slippery. Those above 300m from derby north could do very well for a time at least.

On the radar the perception doesn’t look much atm, but the forecast is for it to peep up as it moves east ….time will tell 🙏

currently now, I’m at -1.1c and dew points at -2.1c

so defo snowfall it’ll be, if it gets here that is 🙏
