Steady snow here in Cheltenham. Real nice surprise. What I don’t understand is why it was never forecast.

Off to Cleeve Hill soon, where there’s sure to be more.

Must be a fair bit by now up around the Air balloon pub, and the road from there to Stow on the wold. No one seems to post from that area.

Light to moderate genuine freezing rain now here, sheets of ice forming on pavings in the back garden. -0.6°C air, -0.3 at 2 cm. Lethal !

Because it can rain below 0C if the snow passes through a warm layer on the way down. It may even re-freeze to produce hail / graupel

Yellow warning was issued just to the south of you so not a great surprise you are caught up in it

It’s developing further right now, beginning to remind me of that Friday several years ago when it kept going all day locally.

I was only thinking the same thing. We had around 30cm that day and it was tough going on the roads.

Freezing rain is a rare type of liquid precipitation that strikes a cold surface, and freezes almost instantly.

Hence after an hour of really annoying rain - 1mm so far and some may still be frozen in the funnel - my back lawn is still sporting hoar frost and it's still at -0.2°C. Notr a snowflake to be seen. Not even a wetblob.

The rain eventually turned to sleet and for a while snow, now just a few wet flakes falling here in Niton (IOW)

Mine has just warmed in the sun (don't really need a heated system) and the rainfall measure has suddenly shot up to 5.8mm.

Lots of dripping going on, but lots of snowy and icy bits around the garden and on the road, if this lot freezes tonight god help the Monday morning commute🙈

Meanwhile, will this coming week also show a few surprises, I wonder?
