Pretty unlucky to be fair, I know the feeling...last night was our first storm in over two years and even then we were right on the very very extreme edge of the squall line so we were only limited to a few distant flashes...but we had a few minutes of intense rain...I'll take it. 

East England has a better chance this week. Hope you get something.

Would've probably been worth it if I'd stayed up but chances of something closer today and further on this week and don't want to be tired because it's back to school today (year 11) and also in case I want to run after a Storm, if its got a shelf cloud, for example, later.

Edit : Checked the UKV and now I'm scared that its moved too far West for me to get anything now .

Waited for a storm all summer here in leicester and i finally got one last night in autumn!!!man i tell ya that was some serious thunder sounded like a bomb went off!!lightning every few seconds and the rain was torrential!!now i have woken up to blue skies!!love it!!!

In my state of almost certainty that the storms would die long before reaching Derbyshire I drove out late yesterday evening in the direction of somewhere towards the north or northeast of London. 

I was quite happy when it became apparent I wouldn't have to drive as far as that and ended up settling just south of Northampton. To be honest if I'd gone any further I would have been too late to get out of the car and i'm never overly keen on storm chases where I am stuck in the car. As it happens I arrived at a closed Tesco Extra just in time to see the storms move over and have shelter whilst they did. It was after I'd watched the storm that I realised the drive I had made was not necessary, as there was a storm moving over my house back in Belper. 

The storm arrived with a decent amount of lightning, although this died out somewhat as it came overhead. There were a handful of good CG's, most of them I missed as they were to the side of where my camera was pointing. There seemed to be lightning in every direction.

When the storm arrived it was over fairly quickly, at least the thunder and lightning part was. It came with a brief spell of T&L, gusty winds and torrential rain before returning to just heavy rain.

It turned out well last night (this morning) as I saw a decent storm. The fact there was one at home is no bother, it would have been awful if I'd not seen a storm myself.

Now need to get some work done, catch up on some sleep and then get ready to go again this evening.

Just a rough rule of thumb calculation ; using the Net Weather radar to check the time the line of storms developed near Weymouth on the South Coast until the same leading edge exited the NE coast near Whitby, then a Google Maps mileage for distance between those 2 towns, it moved about 350 miles in 6 hours!!!

Last night produced a higher rating than any of the scores I gave the seven  storm events during the Summer.

 

The best that selection achieved was 6/10.

Last night was a solid 7/10 due to the first instance this year of overhead thunder and lightning.

Couldn't score any higher as it was an hours worth from approach to departure.

The lightning display was pretty awesome during that time.

Well, all that completely missed me last night. Looked like I was in for a direct hit at one point before it all suddenly evaporated.

Charts 2 days ago were looking promising for here for Monday as well, and now there seems to be very little on the cards at all - it's all south of here. In fact, Norwich is *just* outside the SLGT zone for the third day in a row - it actually curves to avoid Norwich today

Been a very disappointing summer so far for storms. Had one or 2 very small storms very early on, at the end of spring. That's usually a bad sign, and it has proven to be. Had a small lightshow at the end of that 37°C heatwave, but nothing else of note.

Had some very strong wind and some rain and some distant rumbles but never really got going here. It went to the west of us which seems to have been the theme this year.

Green - Low risk

Yellow - Slight risk

Orange - Enhanced risk

Red - Moderate risk

If it had pink that would be high risk 

it's not a great outlook and I should have extended it further West out of Ireland but that's hard to do on my editing app.

Some large amounts of CAPE building at my location this evening on WRF questionn is will it be utilised.
Was also showing a big elevated cluster of storms passing overnight but on the latest run it’s completely gone.

THUNDERSTORM WATCH - MON 5TH SEPT 2022

Forecast Details

Upper and collocated surface low will be slow-moving to the west of Ireland, a set of fronts wrap around a fairly deep surface low to the west of Ireland, with a slow-moving waving cold front lying NW-SE across Scotland and N-S across along of just off coast of E England at 06z. A new wave along the cold front will buckle the front back W and NW across Britain, with warm front pushing N across England through the day, with warm, moist and unstable air pushing N across England and Wales to the south of this front.

Although there will be no discernable upper forcing to support any organised areas of convection during much of daytime, warm moist airmass (dew points of 14-17C towards S England and S Wales) will advect north across England and Wales through the day and will be increasingly unstable to surface heating – with 800-1200 j/kg CAPE simulated by some models. With this in mind, some models do break out scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms across S England, Wales, Midlands and E Anglia this afternoon, some elevated as warm moist plume is destabilised by cooling / subtle forcing aloft, but also some surface based showers/storms, as the cap is eroded by stronger pockets of surface heating. Surface breeze convergence, particularly towards the west, will also create lift to support heavy showers and storms. With deep layer shear of 30-40 knots and low level backing of winds across S. Ireland, Wales and SW England – there is potential for any surface-based storms to organise here to produce an isolated risk of large hail, strong wind gusts and maybe even an isolated tornado, but will refrain from delineating a severe risk, as the risk looks rather low.

Through this evening and overnight, there looks to be a more organise push for clusters of thunderstorms to break out, as upper support increase with a shortwave trough, currently to the NW of Iberia to the west of the Bay of Biscay, ejects NE towards SW Britain this evening, before lifting N and NE across England and Wales tonight. So clusters of storms look to develop towards the S and SW and push northeast across parts of England and Wales this evening and overnight. Some storms could be quite electrically active and produce some high rainfall totals in a short space of time leading to flash-flooding, along with gusty winds and perhaps hail locally.
