Pretty interesting map I found from Vaisala on lightning density, even goes down to counties in the UK despite being world wide.

Vaisala's interactive global lightning density map display

I love 'quickfire popups'...😀...

Saltdene and Rottingdene are great places to observe storms in the channel. As i kid i used to stay with my parents in a guest house on the cliff front at Rottingdean with amazing views of the sea. We used to walk on that coastal path shown in your second picture...seeing it has brought it all back for me 🙂 Must have been incredible these last few days with the sea views of the storms....

...radar showing more activity coming in from ssw so heres hoping for today...

It is lovely,I get part of my 10.000 steps in each day by doing the walk from Saltdean to Rottingdean and back along the undercroft shown here at 630am to avoid too many people!

It has been a great vantage point for the storms ,I chose the Downs behind us for the elevation and views at all points of the compass.

The undercliff is great during a Gale and a high tide too,I've seen the waves break as high as the cliff tops.

This couldnt be any more inaccurate if it tried 🤣👎👎

Think they got it a little correct, few flashes and rumbles now rolling up over the Gower.

Well, showers appear thin on the ground in my area...with most of any that do come of the pulse type...not lasting very long...

Edit...in fact a lot of cirrus moving in...

Going crazy just off the coast here, lightning every 10–20 seconds. Also more stuff in Shropshire/Welsh borders coming north.

Thunder in Brum

Can see how black looking it is towards Brum.  Nothing over here though and the sun is still out.

Had a short torrential shower and loud clap of thunder just as I was leaving work in Southend at just after 14:00, didn’t last very long, but was enough to make driving more difficult

Have had a good storm here- absolutely bucketed down and nice rumbles of thunder, particularly after the deluge had passed, including one very close hit!

Last night / this morning (about 3am) woken up by the most incredible rainstorm. Looked on radar and it was barely a sliver of red, but it seemed to last well over 5 mins. Really, really heavy. This morning the garage lights circuit kept tripping the main breaker, so I think the water worked it’s way into one of the external light fixtures… 🤔

More thunder again today. Third thunderstorm in 4 days now, not bad. This is the most thundery spell since 2020 at least.

There is so much thunder being heard here, must be from the Birmingham storm, but there are other developing too, didn't expect this much today, again. Wow.

The most conducive environment for lightning at the moment very much seems to be West Midlands through into Wales (although noting there are odd exceptions!).

Showers elsewhere seem to be trying to get going, but are not extending much beyond localised, occasionally torrential downpours.

From a 'my back yard' perspective, I'm encouraged (as @Flash bang flash bang etc alludes to above) by the more conducive environment forming over NW France and the Channel Islands currently, which is expected by some models to generate heavier and possibly thundery downpours later this evening across the SE.

Weird, absolutely hammering it down while the sun shines.

I always find you 'Inlanders' lucky as you always seem to get surface based daytime storms, where structure is visible and you don't need to wait until the middle of the night to witness a storm. Wish we had more of those on the coast!
