Such a tiny window of view due to cloud, I can just make them out, centre of pic, faint but they are there, too much cloud around, curse it.

Not really shown up on photo, never mind.

Quick edit shot off the camera, based on the stars it seems to be about 9° above the horizon to my NW at 2311 BST.

Ongoing morning display currently, albeit weak. Looks to be just hugging the horizon, maybe max 6 / 7 degrees above, facing directly north. Off to bed now.

It was indeed, I almost missed it completely while watching Elton John absolutely killing it at Glastonbury.

Looks like there was a decent amount of clear skies judging by the amount of pictures that have been posted in the thread 👏

It would have been a real shame if the UK missed out on tonights display.

Unfortunately the clouds didn't stick around for too long, and I genuinely thought it was a false ID for a while, just going off how quickly they seemed to fade, but as darkness fell more and more I was still able to see them on the back of the camera

2023 NLC season is finally up and running, at least it is for us southern folk.

Lovely shots, well done! I didn't bother to go out as I was getting ready for bed at the time and I don't really have any good north-facing foregrounds (that I know of yet, anyway) within, say a 2-minute drive. Just as well that I didn't go out as it was over pretty quickly

It's been a painfully slow start this year so I'll take any kind of sighting now. The early morning display wasn't that great for me, but I don't really remember seeing them in the North West skies on both the evening and morning shows before (more NE in the morning)? Maybe I'm just getting old and forgetting previous events.

One shot from about 11:30ish

Think I might have to find a new viewing spot too. My favoured location is getting contaminated with cars parked up all night with music, headlights and engines running. Old man rant, I know.

Lovely photo

That looks like great place to shoot.. the scenery that is, not the antisocial D#!@Heads 😂

Sad to hear of your experience with this type of behaviour, but I also have the same problem.

The place I've been going for years has now turned into  a meet-up area for boy/girl racers, loud music, drifting in the carpark littering all over the place, the list goes on! And it doesn't feel as safe as it once was

It's a real shame, and the police don't seem to care 😤

Are you sure you aren’t in the same spot as me 😄 My next best location is about 40 minutes away (but completely people free!), which wouldn’t be too bad if these clouds were not so elusive.

The only time I’ve seen any police is when they were curious about what I was doing at 2am 🙄

Solar cycle could limit NLC?

Ive seen that, but if the solar cycle IS to blame, then we would see a dip where it peaked in the past... i make it going off graphs that the last solar sycle (24) peaked between 2014 and 2016... but instances of NLCs didnt drop in that period, nor the previous SC23 between 1999 and 2001...

I only saw them fleetingly in a tiny cloudless gap in the evening display due to the heads up on here, by the time I got over the excitement and fannied about with my phone to take a pic they had all but disappeared.  Back in work now, so morning vigils will be few and far between, alarm goes off 5.30.  I couldn't see anything on any Euro cams either.

Thanks to everyone for posting their pics.

Also your videos.

Well this was today's early morning display over Dublin. Makes sense as that is what I saw, was mostly north or NNW direction rather than North - NE. So parts of ireland seeing a 'higher' display.

Lovely to watch Sundays display and view some cracking photos

I am keeping an eye on the rotation of the display and with last nights sightings in British columbia,  confirming its pace. it should next be over the uk by Fri/Sat (30-06-2023)

Still awaiting the latest NOAA 21 images to be published to gauge whether the mass is still in depletion, but sightings over Alaska tonight would be an encouraging sign and show the of the rotation

I`m awaiting an ebay delivery on Sat 01-07-2023, so again, i would not bet against a display on Friday/Sat😅

Clouds expected to arrive from the West overnight.. its a case of timing... Eastern areas should be ok..
