Storms and Convective discussion - June 2023

Tomorrow looks very active across a larger area of England if not all of it. Looks to be very widespread from coast to coast, if you don’t see a storm tomorrow  I’d be surprised . Unless you’re on the extreme south coast. The UKV and arome and arpege have a wide swathe of thunderstorms developing across a large swathe of England and wales, strengthening as they move northwards.

I think tomorrow will be the most widespread day and not just localised to the west and central areas! If all goes well have to be very unlucky not to see some action tomorrow ! I’m off and will be going north up the M1 to Bedford or maybe even Northampton but will make this choice tomorrow.

good luck everyone and happy storm watching/chasing 🙂

edit- just been reading people’s post on the 2015 event and I think we might be in for something similar ! If not better ! As it’s been very hot for along time. Would be interesting to see if anyone had CAPE values for that day and compare with tomorrow. Can’t wait very active year so far long may it continue

Pretty much every model that I can see is beginning to agree the far SE is not looking good. North and North West however looking very good. They’ve also being reducing CAPE for us too…

Not great - but with these kinds of events they can be very unpredictable and storms can literally pop up anywhere

As I've said before I'm terrified of storms and with it saying we are expecting them for a few days could you knowledgeable lot let me know roughly when they would be for my area ie. Overnight or morning or afternoon if you can and don't mind, on the map I'm the blue pin I'm below @ChezWeather and a few of more of you, you all are really helping me stay calmer longer knowing where its coming. Thank you ☺

The best storm I recall from recent years was July 2019. Radar exploded.

I agree. Whilst it is interesting to hear about past events, it can get a bit tedious expecting some updates regarding current/future potential but all there is being posted is historical discussion.

There would be too many threads. Plus it is relevant to relate and transgress back to storms from memory if the Synoptics of those events correlate with what we are seeing in upcoming ones.

Just my 5p worth 🙂

it doesnt bother me tbh, its interesting comparing past storm setups to presrnt models to gauge a realistic expectation of events. It's still relevant.

Its pretty silly tho, blabbing about things that happend years ago, on a live thread that 'should be current situations'

Maybe its me being a old fart or having limited data to trawl though the "i remember whens" When i think somthing, maybe convective is going on!

Forecast not great here for storms tonight or tomorrow, lots of cloud cover which i guess will hinder any chance of storms developing, also been a slightly fresher feel here today and very little sunshine.

Arome now picking up the band that @staplehurst discussed earlier. As he mentioned, it ends up from NW Eng to Lincs come 6z. A think a lot of hope down here in the south will be pinned on this being onto something!

There's been a few threads about thunderstorm memories. Quite often people remembered the same storm as other posters.
