I'm not sure if your aware of just how exceptional this period has been in Yorkshire and the North East but it took 29 days before it rained here, that's a record for my memory back to at least 2004 and likely 1995 or 1990.

All the rain last week fell over the Midlands and North West.

My more northern part of Sheffield has also been exceptionally dry. We missed the downpours on Monday which scraped by the southern side and only got a few spots today. As such, we've had comfortably less than 1mm with our last significant fall on 11th May.

It’s been 48 days here since we had rain. Expecting a hosepipe ban any day now (the surrounding area was notified of one starting next week).

Hoping for a storm just to get some rain in if nothing else!

Nope, I'd have to be looking out my other window to see that.

Out of interest is there a meteorological reason that everybody is punting severe for the south while the models are showing that strongest precipitation in the north.

Is it simply that by the time it's here, it's likely just to be very heavy rain and no longer electrically active.

exactly that - at some point there will be a transition, and it's trying to find the location where that happens etc

Enjoying the show at the moment, too distant at the moment for my camera and covered in cloud.

Yes 8/9 May last time we had any notable rain, just splashes since. Rivers are running dry in the wettest part of England!

There seems to be more developments further west in the channel.

Lightning visible near Tonbridge, Kent. Its really active! In a good spot at the moment. This is giving me flashbacks of a certain storm last year where flashes from the channel were also visible.
