Just look at the ECM run in the 6 hour frames and the coldest air holds on for a little longer than the GFS/UKMO runs but perhaps predictably that means the PPN is not there either until later on in the day where the air is less cold and occurs at the worse time(just after the warmest part of the day)

I don't think it would take much to alter things but most runs have gone for this milder sector to be quite wide. Nevertheless it's still over 100 hours away and in model run terms that enough runs for things to look different either better or worse.

That's the spirit 🙄

More nostalgia - before 2010 this was the biggest snowfall I can remember, in 2000...

Remember that one. Even here the snow was fairly deep.

My tolerance for winter is decreasing year on year as I get older.

Utterly depressing being under cloud and a cold wind day after day. If it’s not going to snow I’m not really interested.

Spring is the best season for me these days.

Spring and autumn for me… had lovely May and June last year… July and August abysmal… had some lovely September/October days up here recently… just hate when winter is perpetual autumn… grey and wet… like this autumn and winter so far… at least we’ve had some colder seasonal sunny days this week 👌👍

Cheshire gap activity here I’d have thought @Joe Snow

Hopefully we catch something - would be happy with a covering if it can stick around for a few days under cold air - like early Dec but it sticking around would be great 🥶❄️

Fingers crossed

It’s a lovely run as it’s a westerly but it’s quite slack which is a positive, heights are low promoting instability and the vector alters between NW’ly and WNW’ly

As long as the snow piles into Cumbria and NW

need winds more NW'ly here, this will bury SK4, like 20th Dec '09 and 5th Jan '10

That was a decent event, remember getting a lovely surprise when waking up when I looked out and hearing the airport had shut down too, had to wait 4 years for a good event like that. 2000-2001 was a winter that ended up probably the best overall from the 1997-2008 period.

The winds were far more westerly in those instances (like the 120hrs chart)

The icon chart, top one will be useless here, Manchester/Preston etc in firing like for over a foot

Yeah but prior to that winds are straight NW’ly

Remember the streamer that dumped a foot of snow on Cumbria  in early December was on a  westerly stream 👍👍👍

More of a south-westerly. Your point is good though.

Very strong comparisons.. we had about 8 inches of snow in 2009.
