These figures make grim reading, no wonder we are all vitamin D deprived by February longing for sunshine.

Could go down as one of our dullest Februaries in a long time. Invariably mild in Feb equates to lack of sunshine. Fed up of it now.

17.1 hrs here in the first 20 days, that's 35% of what would normally be expected by this stage of the month.  Equally remarkable is that the sunniest day so far ( 12th ) has managed only 3.0 hrs.  I suppose it could all change in the final 9 days of the month but at the moment it's well on target to be, at least,  the second dullest February on record.

Final table of February 2024 sunshine 🌞

Some notes-

East Sussex one of the dullest places this month...wow.

West Midlands, despite only having 1510 hours sunshine annually, are bizarrely always in the top area...

The North Yorkshire coast was the sunniest place in England

Seems to be roughly the further North and East you go this month, the more sun there was

Disappointing overall for most

28.5 hrs of sun here in February ( 42% of average ) making it the second dullest February on record ( since 2000 ). Only Feb' 2011 with 27.9 hrs was duller.

As I'm waiting for data to come through for my regular English Counties, in the mean time, here is the past 3 months for the whole UK!

SunSean glad to see you are doing a rolling total, will definitely be interesting at the end of the year.

will you be putting it on one table or are you doing separate?

53.3 hrs of sunshine here in March, 53% of average. This makes it the 3rd dullest March since 2000, not quite as bad as last March though which recorded 48.3 hrs. The only other duller March was 2005 with  46.6 hrs.

TwisterGirl81 Don't worry, I haven't missed Exeter out, they're on the UK County table that will be posted once the last 3 stations bother to complete their data lol

SunSean Wow, Scottish Islands and Highlands did well in March, and the Hebrides in February too.  Really shows the impact of the trough anchored to our SW so frequently during those months.

March 2024 total sunshine per county in England 🌞

Nothing too special, everywhere trumped by many parts of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Disclaimer- Although great care goes into producing these tables, 100% accuracy cannot be guaranteed 🙏

Surely eventually, we will finally get another sunnier than average month in England 🤞

Must be on course to achieve one of the dullest first halves of April on record.

Duller than 2012 I suspect, and probably somewhat duller than 2018.

SunSean Surprisingly "sunny" at Portsmouth, not too far from me. 96 hours isn't great but still means more than 3 hours per day, which seems sunnier than it actually was.

Summer8906 Not sure about 2018. That only had 21 hours until the 13th, and Im currently at 17 hours and the next 3 days could contibute a few (particularly tommorow). Either way, still very poor but didnt really feel as dire as 2018 so far

baddie My thoughts there was that in 2018 we had a couple of sunny days on the 5th and 6th, and the 7th was partly sunny. So far this month we've had a moderately sunny day on the 1st, sunshine at times on the 6th but also cloudy periods, and an often sunny afternoon on the 9th. Very little else apart from fleeting glances here and there, so I'd expect things to be below 2018 here.

2018 had another sunny day on the 14th; this year I expect tomorrow and Friday to be completely cloudy but the weekend might offer sunny periods at times as the cold front clears out the clag and replaces it with a clear and fresher NW-ly.

SunSean Where the hell is Hampshire inland as I've not had hardly any sun and that seems to imply a fair bit

*Stormforce~beka* wouldn't call 37 hours a fair bit as it equates to a rubbish 3.7 hours per day, way under par for April! 37 hours is bad and dull but other places were amazingly even worse! Lol.

SunSean The sunny April's of 2018-22 seem so distant away. We got around 240hrs in 2021 yet 10 days into this month it's only at 15... This month is basically the same as last year but a lot milder.
