In case anyone doesn't know, the current record is 35.6°C from the 1906 heatwave. The highest completely uncontested record is 34.6°C from 1911. In recent years the highest we have seen is 34.4°C at Gravesend in 2016.

How high could the ceiling be in September today if conditions are right?

Depends on the weather from the previous 9 months tbh, if it was a dry winter, followed by a dry, warm spring and a scorching summer beforehand, then I reckon 37-40 degrees would be possible. I would put money on 37.5C.

At a complete guess, maybe around 37'C. A few degrees lower than the 40.3'C which occurred mid summer.
