SunSean it's the same across the Channel too. Paris has only recorded around 17 hours of sun so far this month.

very warm sun beating down on me, around 14.40, whilst waiting for the bus in King's Bromley, certainly a 'summer' feel to things now, but could be down to just 10 degrees by Thurs

In the last yr   ,not much of a spring, not much of a summer ( though I'm not mad about heat anyway), not much of an autumn and not much of a winter.   One thing that got me interested in weather when I was a kid was our seasons. This last yr has been atrocious.

Hard to believe we've only got a week and a half before March arrives. It looks to be turning cooler next week with plenty of rain. Going into March and I reckon we'll start to see the first plumes turning up in the ensembles, who knows how long it'll be before they have enough support to verify.

What person is looking for plume set ups in March? I think that’s odd given the climatology.

Winter 2013/14 was the most pathetic winter on record not a single air frost..

Had to wait until March 24th and that was just an air frost..

Pick of the winters ending in 3/4 not 1973/4 although thats looks a better solution into early march..

2003/4 nope but a cold spell at the end of feb Nly..

1993/94

1983/4 is my pick as 1st as the cold zonality was the best you ll ever see..

Here:

Lowest air frost count January - April: 10 in 2014

Lowest in a meteorological winter: 5 in 1989-90

To compare with winter 2023-24, There has been around 12, 16 if including November. This year so far about 8, all in January, none in February so far. Frostless Februaries aren't unheard of, some recent ones include 2014 and 2022 which were frostless. This one could be another, depends if temps fall enough during the cooldown.

Not been the best of winters for air frosts, but indeed there has been worse!

Snowyowl9 For a winter ending in 3/4, I think that winter 1953-54 had quite a major cold spell around late January and early February, and there was another fairly cold spell around late February into early March I think.

1988/89 how many then

1989/90 I suspect that was low..But zero air here in 2013/14 is a bit strange, atlantic driven,we had more snow that winter to this though..

 North-Easterly Blast

Yes I agree with that,I didn t go back that far but as December 1933 was the coldest it looked very dry and blocked..

A winter ending ending in 3/4 no real classics but 1953/4 was more potent from the east and we can still get cold like that now and much more as 2018 february showed upper air..

Cold snap/spell end of february more or less what we can get now..

BBC said it's turning chiller later in the week. They then show temperatures ranging from 7c in the north to 10c in the south. That's not really chilly for late winter.

Summer Sun These are max temps remember, might only achieve them for an hour or two tops, in polar maritime flows at this time of year temps in showers often drop like a stone. A typical day here might dawn at 2-3 degrees, taking until after noon to break 7 degrees, couple of hours at 8 degrees between 1 and 3, then back to 6 degrees by dusk.. in any showers temps drop to 5-6 degrees especially if heavy.

No, but it's chillier than what we've had for weeks!

Well, another absolute stinker to join many recent winters and well up there with the likes of 2019/20 and 2021/2022!  More will think twice about getting excited about the prospects for 2024/2025?! 🤔 🙁

How long before any month with a CET below 6C is described as a 'cold' month?
