Been snowing all day, although it didn’t start sticking on the grass until late morning, and not on the roads and pavements until late afternoon. Currently 0.8°C and still snowing outside. Considering the bbc weather app was forecasting cold rain here just a couple of days ago, I still consider it a win.

 severe snowstorm

Unlucky. You had the same weather conditions the bbc weather app was forecasting for me on Thursday a few days ago. Got some snow here but it will all by gone by tommorow as it will be back to the usual rain. Yay…

Heavy snow is giving another covering where I cleared it earlier but it looks like it won’t be long before the back edge arrives.

It’s certainly vile outside at the moment.

winterof79 Evaporative cooling did its trick east of Pennines, but west of Pennines it was too light and therefore couldn't have an affect. Orographic uplift from an easterly flow reason why, shadow effect west side of Pennines and I include Cumbrian fells.

Yes this easterly wind thing really helps east of the hills.

Onwards and upwards. I think there’s the best hope of winter in the next 4 weeks.

signing off for a bit.

They will often cancel if it’s not need after a certain time. They had it til 6am tomorrow so that’s been cut short.

damianslaw Yep, spot on.  Snow all day here, but lack of intensity meant very little settled.  Common occurrence here in such set ups.  I notice @iand61 with more elevation and a bit further east did better.

Subtract 1.5c of climatic warming and it would have been a completely different picture today.

Time beginning to run out now on this winter. Yes we still have most of March as well but by then everything feels different. Rarely does it last in March but I suppose some snow is better than nothing. Only thing that can save this winter ending up crap is 2018 style beast. The shield got overwhelmed here, it was no where to be seen!

Well @Chris.R your predictions went well for Isle of Man.  It started snowing over the hills at 7am and didn't stop yet. We've even had snow ploughs out clearing hill roads in the west of the island.  Cold rain/sleet all day at my elevation (300ft). Rain around all coasts. 5 or 6 of our highest roads (1200ft or above) were closed, 3 of those remain closed overnight. Amber weather warning for snow above 800ft finishes at 23.00hrs.

Glad you hillbillies got snow! Just got back from the big smoke-about as bad driving conditions as I've seen without snow! Heavy driving rain, spray, windy all the way. Next rain band around Stoke now I reckon-more heavy rain-happy days......... Fire now lit, brandy and ginger in hand aaaaaand chill. Where are we at with sow? Settling over 250m?
