Photo from somewhere around Chesterfield posted on Facebook by Serena James, it's not that high up (nothing really above 170-180m is inhabitated unless it's at Wadshelf) but has seen some impressive depths!

Currently driving back home from Tameside hospital, don't worry nothing serious just an appointment, but even up there at 155m there's no lying snow. falling snow but nothing on the ground. Aren't I glad I didn't get my expectations up.

Very heavy ice pellets/snow mix now. All kinds of sizes of ice pellets along with the occasional large snowflake some encased in ice.

If this would have stuck from 7am this morning then the local Blackrod, Horwich and Bolton area would have been looking at 15cm+  even as I type massive flakes coming down here in blackrod.

Day 10 Mmm interesting... tbf DP here in Glossop still sits at 0c with just 0.8c so perhaps a second band later on before the washout on Friday?

At least this bit of the forecast is going to plan then. This is the precipitation mix I expected at this time.
still very heavy ice pellets with the occasional large snowflake making it through the inversion. As it continues more and more of these flakes are making it through.

You should have gone to Spec Savers.

I've checked and the Amber is still there.

That's what Mrs FLT is always saying to me! The amber warning now only covers E Midlands, W Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber, so maybe I missed it earlier.

Torrential mix of all three precipitation types now. Some snowflakes surviving the passage through the inversion some raindrops surviving as liquid to the surface having not enough time to freeze in the Sub zero layer just above because of the intensity and still some ice pellets. quite fascinating

damianslaw  south and west Yorkshire always do well. Of course I've moved to snow shield Manchester city centre.
