My gazebo in the garden which has been up all winter on days more windy than this... which was bolted down to concrete and had four ropes securing it... has just flipped upside down... partially destroying a garden table and ripping it's roof canopy. The ropes stopped it going very far thankfully and the frame seems okay. Can't believe it.

Chris.R   sorry to read that Chris, hopefully it will be salvageable.  These gusts aren't half packing a punch still, some blue sky and fantastic cloud scapes but this wind is not letting up.

Rush2019  Thanks i've had a look and the frame can definitely be reused but I think I'm going to have to buy a new canopy and some side panels. Could've been worse.

been dry since midday here.

We spent the morning stuck under the type of northwesterly streamer and high winds that would have given a massive dumping and blizzards in winter but nothing but disgusting torrential rain today.

A slight improvement in the afternoon but another couple of lighter showers have just passed through in the last hour but after all of the rain, the grass will have to wait until things seriously dry out again.

maybe June if we are lucky🤬

Some surprising stats for our region as regards to exceptionally wet Aprils.  The wettest April on record is 1970, which is not a year I suspect many would choose if they had to guess.  There have been only 6 years where at least 100mm was recorded and neither April 2000 nor 2012 reached that mark. For England and Wales as a whole, they are the two wettest Aprils on record.

Two that did get to the 100mm mark were surprisingly April 1947 and 1949.

Another surprise is that April 2005 was almost as wet as April 2012. Got to say I don't recall much about April 2005 apart from that very short wintry interlude at the end of the first week.

Certainly a wild day, I wonder why this wasn't a named storm? There has been a lot of fallen trees and general debris around. It's the longevity of the winds really.

Can't wait to see the back of this absolutely appalling day. It's a nightmare for the garden with the blossom out or on the way out. Just hope things recover.

A few flashes of lightning was seen from here as that thundery shower moved SEwards from Glossop and over into the Hope Valley, barely audible thunder as the PPN rates must have been crazy within that central core and some gusty windspeeds here on the western outer-inflow.

Love convection at this time of year.

A tad warmer would have been nice though.

Deafening 15 minutes of hail left everything white and my missus struggling to hear Emmerdale.

Could do with the same again for when Corrie is on shortly👍

Well it's certainly been an interesting day of weather, some really potent gusts of wind, particularly around showers. Squally rain and hail showers on and off. Sadly, no thunder and lightning here, but looks like quite a few strikes elsewhere in the region. Definitely into the convective season now, which provides some interest.
