Well nearly 20C here with a force 8-9 SSW gale, given the wind strength surprised the yellow warning wasn't extended.

Thank goodness its not July/August, with the same set up would be very unpleasant.

I took a pic from the same spot about 6 weeks ago, slight improvement but we are going to be well into spring before some of this land dries up, no good for this years harvest.

Absolutely battering it down on the Yorkshire Wolds currently, sounds thoroughly unpleasant outside, looking on the radar we are on the northern edge of a squall line rattling across East Yorkshire.

Yes I heard a tremendous squall around midnight.
Very gusty and hammering down with rain.

Well more rain today, after a fine morning I could see the rain moving in as I was at the furthest point of my daily ride, and got wet on the return leg.

Winds were WSW backing WNW force 4-5, temps at 11C, but felt colder in the rain. Looks like quite a bit more rain to come.

Autumn, Winter and Spring 2023-24 have to have been one of the worst in my memory which is pretty long, unrelenting rain, wind, and mildness. No proper cold, no fine frosty days.

Another a wet day. Using Church Fenton as a proxy for an average here. To date every month since June last year has seen above average rainfall.

July 2023: 150.2mm vs average of 52mm. 188% more than the average

August: 72mm vs average 62mm. 16% more than the average

September 65.4mm vs average 56mm. 16% more than the average

October 144.6mm vs 58mm. 151% more than the average

November 101.2mm vs 58mm. 74% more than the average

December 150.2mm vs 58mm. 158% more than the average

January 2024 78.2mm vs 48mm. 62% more than the average

February 86.5mm vs 42mm. 104% more than the average

March 65.6mm vs 41mm. 58% more than the average

April 59.4mm vs 43mm. 38% more than the average

Models suggest it turning more showery as we head into the second half the month, so hopefully a little drier. Will May finally break the cycle?

Indeed - 70mm by the 19th if GFS 6z was taken at face value. Though hopefully not pushing close to 100mm as per some of the recent months!

Mark Bayley 10 'wetter than average' months on the trot, is that a record?

Lunchtime bike ride was dry, but wind was a problem, force 5-7 SW made for a very unpleasant head wind up on to the Wolds which reduced my distance as I was running out of time. Temps were 11C and cloudy skies.

Dryness hasn't lasted into the sfternoon however, yet more unwelcome rain, although it has been light so far

Better start this morning after yesterday's rain, started to cut firewood yesterday and got rained off at about 1.30pm.

Managed to stay dry here thankfully so far, made for a productive day outside with more logs split and stacked, although the breeze is annoying it helps with drying things up,

My grape vine has begun its bud break also, hopefully the colder nights we're looking at won't put it at risk.

Wold Topper Yes same job for me, wind helped to distribute the saw dust everywhere but got quite a bit done. Just have about 25 pallets to saw up now for lighting wood.

Edit: just seen Tuesdays forecast, 60mph gusts, not good. Yellow warning???

Very short and sweet squall line. The noise in the trees maybe think more than 38 mph gust. Rare we get squalls normally they break up or the winds drop out when they come over.

MetO yellow warning for wind today just been issued, we are right at the northern edge of it, however the forecasts both here and the MetO one give the strongests wind tomorrow. Quite a disparity in forecast max gusts tomorrow as well, MetO 44mph, here 64mph

Is this hail or is this snow because it looks and feels like snow.

Haven't seen and sleet or wet snow but then I was at work and low down.  Temperatures did get down to 2.9C at 9 O'clock. Winds peaked so far at 47mph and average high of 28 mph so pity much in ball park. Just looked at security cam playback and definatley sleet at nine this morning.

Well another thoroughly unpleasant morning. Gale force winds, yet more rain that we dont need, and 7c. Stove has been relit.

Yesterdays bike ride was curtailed to 4 miles because of the wind, climbing up out of the village it was too wild to ride safely. Looks like the same today.
