Much better today, it may be chilly, but I'd much rather have sunshine and showers over prolonged rain and cloud all day, great cloudscapes too!

After the ghastly morning we had, it doesn't actually look that bad out there now. Some sunshine about.

Regional stats for February 2024 just posted over in the Records & Stats thread. All in all a remarkable month with records tumbling.

Bucks Council has issued a weather warning for London and the South East for snow....when there isn't one. And now the local and parish councils and doctor's surgeries have spread the non existent weather warning.

They have even put up a non-existent Meto link.

Truly bizarre!

A day of being sunny one minute and a heavy shower the next! One of the showers had a slightly sleety touch to it, and another had some small hail.

Essex missing out on any sunshine once again. This weather pattern, since I first became more interested in weather almost a decade ago, is the most testing, unrelenting & depressing I have ever experienced. If it isn't raining, it's overcast or both & any sunny spells are gone in a flash. The last fully sunny day in my area was January 26th. Utterly pathetic. There were sunny spells forecast today, which although nothing special, would have been a break from the never-ending gloom but even that did not come to fruition & we have been cursed with all day rubbish again. I know the day isn't over yet but the cloud satellite shows a constant unbreakable stream of crap flowing up through my area. My only option now really is to take a chunk out of my savings & escape abroad for a few days because sunshine in Essex is seemingly an exceptionally rare occurrence these days & for a sun lover like myself, it's nothing short of torture! Apologies for the rant but my patience to experience sunshine again is far beyond the point of broken!

Incredible...wettest February since records started in 1856 here in the south according to the met..

metofficegovuk_xsmall.thumb.png.097a7174150fb5c9b0e7ff0f1858d0a8.png

..also much warmer than average more broadly..

metofficegovuk_xsmall(1).thumb.png.e8def99bf0b87ae0d8f909108a01535e.png

...my own very untechnical rain guage recorded 120mm rain for February or 110mm upto 28th as this year is a leap...well over twice the average for this area..and another 22mm so far for March..

..weidly woke up to a frost and mist this morning ....

...ground is so saturated though...as others have said desperately need period of dry weather...with some sun would be nice...as a gardener sodden ground makes usually enjoyable work very challenging...

..am i hopefull?..well a good start would be to see elimination of those rain spikes on the model runs...

....mmm...oh well there is another SSW on the way apparently...

ps2png-worker-commands-7f7fb9bb5d-xddzv-6fe5cac1a363ec1525f54343b6cc9fd8-LBKgpt.thumb.png.4b00d1e5df8f72e5c7c2f005c3a46c79.png

...interestingly the latest ecm zonal wind chart keeps winds reversed from about 5th to 29th of this month...maybe enough time to promote some blocking that will enable drier weather to take hold...lets hope so, particularly for gardeners and growers..
