I doubt it! Anyone who is complaining about that, after the 18 months wettest period on record, needs a reality check

A bit like those who think it's been freezing cold for the last 18 months?! 😉

I've worn a coat for about a week in January. It's mostly been a continuous, eternal October. The Sun seems to be coming out almost every day here now so hopefully this is indicative of a change on the way. It's been gradual but rainfall is now nowhere near the levels it was in February or early March, it's certainly improving a lot now.

CongletonHeat Panels these days work very well even without direct sun. Even in overcast conditions we can be generating 1-2kW at the moment. Today made 15.8kWh alone and over 11kWh exported so a negative bill day despite the crap weather.

Don Does anyone really think it’s been freezing cold for 18 months..?

No. Didn’t think so.

In Absence of True Seasons There will be though, not raining for more than 10 minutes seems to send some folk into a melodramatic meltdown 😆

Not particularly pleasant at Heathrow today, lots of cloud and wind and feeling chilly

Don For sure, it's been predominantly mild, although some folk do feel the cold more than others.

That's a different subject to the fact that it's been one of the wettest spells of weather ever recorded though. Well, the two things are definitely correlated at the very least...the mildness and the wetness.

MP-R The warmer nights thing that keeps cropping up is a red herring too. March had an anomaly of +2.5C and that was +2.4C on the maxima and +2.6C on the minima. Its just been consistently above average with no great extremes apart from perhaps mid-January.

CryoraptorA303 That cold week in Jan is the only time I got out my proper winter coat since Winter 2022/23.

Investing in good waterproof clothing is far more important nowadays for British winter-time than a heavy winter coat.

Heating on still, set the same as winter. Mild but damp/wet skies with no sun makes little difference here in April. Without the sun takes an age for house to warm up.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
