Hawesy  Yeah I'm not expecting a widespread dumping of snow. We should see falling snow, and we are at just under 200m here so that's only around 0.5c difference in temp needed from the 300m estimate so there is still a chance here of some settling...  It looks like a bit of a mix down south, looks largely like another bust but some places reporting snow. Just one to keep an eye on 😀

 Ross B

Hi Ross..think the met have made a right mess of forecasting this event currently... Looking around the local threads most precipitation is of rain even at 1000ft in Wales. I guess things could change but I don't think the yellow n amber warnings were / will be needed.

My 2 pennyworth on forecasting the likelihood of snow soon... I watched the MetO so-called 'deep dive' the other day for some insight 😆 I won't be wasting my time on that again as the only measure the guy seemed to put any emphasis on was the height of the 0C isotherm. Talk about dumbing it down.

No mine is just a personal one.

That is the right one though. It sends the data to the Weather cloud app.

I wouldn’t be to disheartened guys , we are colder than those further south and the front have moved in quicker and further north and having a nosey in the north west thread a number of members are now having snow down to low levels so I think we are in a good place as long as the ppn keeps up intensity

Il bank this with AccuWeather 😂

in all seriousness I think met office forecast might be underplaying snow potential for Scotland for tonight and tomorrow 🙏

It's snowing here in Monkton at sea level. Very light but it's snowing. Got to be a good sign.

Kayemill Great sign! Also hearing of reports of snow falling in Kilmarnock... Front is looking stronger than originally modelled too.

Time to roll out the old wetbaw calculator, I feel: Wet Bulb Calculator (omnicalculator.com)

If you know your air temperature and relative humidity you are good to go. For example if it's snowing with an air temp of 2c and Rel Hum of 80% = Wetbaw of +0.2c. You need it below 0c to see meaningful accumulation.

Here in Pittenweem it's currently 4.5c with 70% humidity = wetbaw of +1.8c. That's as low as the temperature will go with evaporative cooling so no prospect of accumulating snow unless the measurements change!

With the flow starting to switch into the East this gets some north sea convection going as can be seen on the radar between Stonehaven and Aberdeen, a cracking view of this here currently..

From stv

Overnight showery rain, sleet and snow will spread into the south of Scotland, with snow falling to low levels briefly before turning to rain during the early hours.

Snow will fall for longer over higher towns and villages such as Peebles, Houndslow, West Linton, Biggar, Forth and possibly Penicuik.

But even in these areas we shouldn’t see more than a few centimetres before it turns to rain on Friday morning.

“Further north, snow will be more of an issue during Friday morning as it’ll take a little longer for the milder conditions to set in.

Across the Highlands, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Perthshire and parts of Angus there could be a few centimetres of snow at low levels, but several centimetres in higher spots such as Lentran, Redburn, Dufftown and Grantown.

The main focus on Friday will be in the south and east Grampians where heavy snowfall could bring up to 20cm in the worst spots along with drifting snow as the winds pick up.

Light snow showers falling now. 3 hours earlier than the Met office forecast for here. Better get to the Co-op for supplies if you know what I mean!
