No thiunder in the end here but skies really did look very threatning at one point. Ended up with a couple of showers before a burst of prolonged rain now back to sun

Happy to be in the Cairngorms rather than Fife last couple of days. Not much snow left for early May but beautiful nonetheless. 19c this afternoon in Aviemore.

Quite fascinating setup, we've got an extremely slow moving streamer esque band across Fife

During Sunday further fascinating evolutions occuring with a convergence zone which potentially grows into a small cyclonic system, the suite of models are having a tricky time getting the intensity of the associated rainfall with this though this interacts with an area of increasing instability (could be thundery in nature) by Sunday Afternoon across Northern and Northeast areas, I suspect this will undergo topographical enhancing via the mountains ⛰️ a second intensification may occur as this convergence zone extends through the Tay Estuary and crosses Fife. I would be surprised if a rainfall warning isn't required from the North Northeast extending across all of Fife. This event is easy to spot when checking where the highest significant PWAT [Precipitable Water] values exist.

Flash flooding here. Was lovely until the late afternoon. 18 C. Then because we went tae the gairden centre tae buy a load ae stuff tae plant, the heavens promptly opened. Was white radar level at times. Thankfully we live on a wee hill. Looks nasty down in Auchleven.

Been down in Yorkshire for couple days this week, stayed in Ripley lovely little village, even the daffs are in perfect lines! Warm sun down there and very nice here Thursday pm and off and on Friday and Saturday. More cloudy today with heavy spell of rain which coincided with the sheep getting out. Dryer later and quite humid too.

Kayemill Aye. Two police cars and some sort of roads maintenance van down from us now near that floodwater in the picture. I'm guessing the road has ended up covered in dangerous levels of debris.

From the wheelbarrow in the gairden, must be 2-3 inches of rain fell in an hour.

Must have been quite localised though. We're not that far away as the crow flies and had nothing very heavy at all, although I'm sure I heard at least one rumble of thunder when out walking the dog around 4pm.

Lovely day at Stonehaven with very hazy sunshine, 18c, calm conditions and Harr lurking ever so close offshore...

Heading back home, impressively dark clouds over the Alford area - the flooding as noted above coming from that and also noted on one of the local Facebook sites...

Some light rain off and on this evening here, looks like most of the heavy rain formed just to our west and SW then ever so slowly drifted south.

Edit - see details of the flooding at Auchleven are posted on this facebook site, some nasty flash flooding - https://www.facebook.com/braemarweather

Been Pea Soup here the last two days with addition of rain this morning.

I'm at work though as apparently I don't work in a bank.

First yellow thunderstorm warning of the season... first bust🤣. Not really much around here either - we've currently got moderate rain according to the radar but barely any is making it to the ground.  Some flash flooding and funnels around in Yorkshire from their storms though and some beasts expected over in oklahoma today...

No rain or thunder here although we had a yellow warning, but dull and horrible again. Forget what sun looks like!

Funny sort of day;  Almost continuous very light rain dawn until 1600.  During afternoon it repeatedly increased to violent intensity, the sort you can hear before it reaches you, luckily for only short periods.  Only a couple of thunder rumbles.  As with any showery situation those who get them say good forecast, those who don’t……that’s showers for you!

 Kirkcaldy Weather

I measured the depth in the wheelbarrow, and aye, ~2.5 inches, which fell within a couple of hours here. It was nuts. Very localised. Radar looked a bit like it was slamming into Bennachie and dropping it's load as it did so, right on top of Premnay / Auchleven.

Had a look at the local geology and it's almost as I thought. Glacial till (Diamicton) overlying metamorphosed sediments. The permeable till normally absorbs the water, which will flow downwards until it hits the poor permeably metasediments, where it will then head downhill through the till porespace to emerge as springs around Auchleven; these feeding into the little river there. Don't know how deep the till is, but that amount of rain had it forming a river in a fairy obvious dry valley in the field, ergo it was totally saturated near the surface at least.

The fact there is a wee dry valley in the field says this happens on a regular basis, at least in geomorphology terms! Nice little dry stream bed in it now. Looks like a wadi. 🙂

A lot of the houses in Auchleven are new; last few decades. Seems the builders did try some drainage works at the problem point, but that totally failed when the dry valley came alive again. They diverted the water away from the latest houses ok, but only send it right through the centre of the old village, causing quite a mess.

I had noticed a wee spring down where the problem occurs at the end of last summer and called Scottish water thinking it maybe a water leak. Was told by a local from them that it's drainage problems.

mardatha yes we have only moved 20 mins up the road, but now means the boys can walk to school and home again in 5 mins rather than 2 hours a day on school bus... smaller house as its now just the 4 of us as eldest has flown the nest.. and alsk Huntly gets more snaw so its a win win..
