For the southern half of the UK it looks to me like mild rain will just be replaced by cooler rain. This is supported by the 12z London ensembles with the mean never going below average except for a blip on the 1st Jan. Further north the wintry potential is greater but it cant be denied that the cold uppers are having a hard time reaching our shores battling against the Atlantic onslaught. This is by no means set in stone however. I really hope we get a settled spell soon!

It looks like the arrival of cooler/colder weather will occur just after the turn of the month. For a month that has been so mild it is rather fitting that it keeps going right till the end and obliterates the previous December record.

Actually felt chilly today with lower upper temps and fairly brisk winds. Temps were still in double figures however.
-
Indeed it was sunny right until sunset here too. In 2 weeks time we will have already gained 13 mins of light in the evening so it doesnt take long for the upwards slope to gather pace.

Colder weather post Christmas? Absolutely no if this is to go by. You usually get the mean trending more towards average in FI but not here. Only 3/4 members get to -5c uppers through the entire run.

Quite likely will end up being the greatest positive anomaly for any month on record.

Well its ALL eyes on mjo phasing and inducing heights at Scandinavia' although right at the very end cross suites.
Certainly a possible/eventual solution evolving. ...but will take a whole lot of meandering' around available data in coming days.
Just to lighten a few dull spirits
Perturbation "5"....again a far cry from reliable time frame. But another otherwise tentative atm sign!!!
No prizes for guessing which ensemble member the above chart relates to.

Tomorrow the sun sets 1 min later than today (times rounded to the nearest 1min of course)

Couldnt get in the damn car door this morning due to the ice. I thought a nice day would ensue but its been mostly grey and raw all day with rain on and off this afternoon. Pretty miserable.
Im glad im no cold lover as the GFS looks mild from start to finish. I just wish we cold get some occasional sunny spells.

All i seem to be seeing of late is the potential for record high CET values. Not even the atrocious end to July produced any record cold days? Interesting times.

Try telling that to those who are flooded, I'm sure they'll agree with you.
But i did just say brisk mild southwesterlies, nothing regarding wanting excessive rainfall. They dont necessarily have to go together. I am speaking for my experiences in my area where it has been a mostly dry weekend apart from a few showers today.

A week full of mild brisk southwesterlies. Just what i like to see at this time of year. A quieter high pressure spell around Christmas and new year would be welcome though. Perfect for walks to work off all that Christmas stodge.

Only 3 more minutes of light to lose here in the evening then its back on the upwards slope back to warmer lighter evenings.

Goodness me! Ive never seen such an above average outlook. Very mild nights coming up but sadly associated with plenty of cloud during the day.

It's been a lovely November, for me. The only dampener was last weekend, but it was only a small price to pay, for what has otherwise been a fantastically mild month.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this month too. Just a pity all these mega positive daily anomalies never occurred during Summer.

Didnt have to wait too long. It will be a pretty stand out month against the rest which were all average/just below.

This is more like it. Much lighter winds than yesterday making it feel more pleasant out and about with a bit of hazy sunshine poking through occasionally. Still cold but its a nice type of cold, not the cold that smacks you in the face like yesterday.

Seems a bit of a bias to the warmer half of the year so far??

I'll be honest, I'm looking forward to the sunshine this weekend, but I'm dreading the wind chill factor. Given the very mild weather we've enjoyed/endured (depending on your preferences) and the cold Arctic air coming down, it will feel really quite bitter on Saturday night.
If it was just sunshine and light winds, it would probably be okay.
Thats why ill be looking out for lovely high pressure domination this winter with light winds. Slight frosts at night leading to pleasant enough days maxing around 6c. It wont set peoples pulses racing with excitement but for me it will be most pleasant.

After a brief dip the mean returns to normal indicating the month will close out in rather average fashion.
-
The turnaround in sunset times comes as an early Christmas present for me and I watch the local weather around mid Dec for when the sunset is a min later than the previous day. Then I know things are on the way back up.
-
Good grief look at those huge positive anomalies and yet the CET is still set to fall away gradually.
-
After the initial shock a couple of weeks ago i have acclimatised to the dark evenings. Still devoid of much to do but im coping better than i did on that Sunday immediately after the clock change.

11.5C to the 13th (8.7: +1.5)
And Friday is supposed to be the coolest day of the Autumn so far. Still 1.5c above average.

It appears that some folk are trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. The London ensemble mean remains between average and a couple of degrees above for the entire run.
