  1. But contrary to some opinions it has not been a warm autumn. September was the coldest for quite a while and October was only a touch above thanks to the last 2 days. A very mild spell is part of an average Autumn. It has just turned out to be an exceptionally mild one.
  2. The sun came out here which mean the Afternoon was mild, breezy and sunny. I was strolling round town in my tshirt just like Summer.
  3. More very mild air on the way for next weekend if the GFS 12z is right
  4. Lovely day out today now that the rains stopped. Very mild and gusty is so invigorating at this time of year.
  5. Ensemble mean looks well above average dropping to average/slightly above in FI. Op run on the cooler side of the mean throughout FI
  6. To be honest ive been oblivious to whats being going on outside while its been dark. For weather enthusiasts, the opportunity for actually observing and enjoying 'the weather' is sadly rather limited at this time of year. On a cold damp day in January the time to shut the curtains is welcomed by me but on a sparkling day like today the darkness came much too soon.
  7. I recall the anticyclonic period just before Christmas 2006 very well. Travelling along on the train on a very cold and misty evening with the daylight fading. I love such anticyclonic spells in winter as long as its not totally foggy all day.
  8. Noo! id be leaving the club on a summers early morning to sunlight in my eyes. All that wasted daylight! I take back what i said about Spain in my earlier post if Barcelona is anything to go by. Sunsets times for midsummer pretty much the same as the UK with sunrise much later around 6.30am.
  9. I imagine if we scrapped GMT and kept BST all year round then i would eventually despite the dark mornings. Even if i moved to Spain to get longer daylight hours in winter i wouldnt get the 10pm sunsets that i love about our Summers. So i cant win to be honest. Time to acclimatise for the next 3 months and make use of the daylight when we do get it.
  10. Thank god for the local gym on weekdays to pass away these long boring evenings. As for Sundays when the gym is shut, its surely not right to sit infront of the telly for 6 hours. How unhealthy is that.
  11. Its still there according to the beeb earlier. 18c on Tuesday.
  12. Its been a grand Autumn for me. Not usually a fan of the season but its been near perfection so far. So many calm and pleasant days for getting out and about. The only blot on the picture has been that awful dull easterly spell a week ago. Looking ahead the models are looking good as far as im concerned.
  13. Well i must say ive quite enjoyed this Autumn so far. Loads of dry days to get out and about and delay that inevitable onset of wet and windy conditions that turn everywhere boggy and waterlogged in the winter. But the time is approaching when the amount of daylight is becoming an issue so getting out and about becomes more problematic. Therefore come November ill be welcoming those big Atlantic storms.
  14. And the recent milder Winters have also brought above average sunshine round here. Please no easterlies bringing a stream of cloud and drizzle like recently.
  15. Im hoping next weeks easterly gets toned down. Fair enough if it was winter i would accept that it would provide some interest, But im afraid it looks cool and breezy with lots of cloud and drizzle/light rain spilling across the North Sea. Id much rather see some raging southwesterlies now.
  16. im trained in this sort of thing though Nick because i pay so much attention Being able to see the setting sun from my window across flat land does help.
  17. Mid December is the turning point for evenings and when the distraction of Christmas and New Year dies down its already noticeable.
  18. Where were all warm easterlies in Summer when they would have provided something settled and pleasant. I look at the GFS 6z and see persistent easterlies giving temps of 9-12c and raw winds. A potentially hideous spell of weather coming up.
  19. The UKMO is also showing the strong area of high pressure set to persist over the UK until the end of the coming week. If the GFS 12z is correct we may see temps reaching 20c
  20. The sight of a large area of high pressure is making me think of those misty Autumnal cool mornings developing into warm, calm and sunny afternoons. The models are looking grand at the moment.
  21. As highlighted well on the GFS 12z. A battle going on between warm air from Spain and a large pool of cooler air over central and northern Europe. The result is mid teens for the UK. The ECM is looking far more summerlike.
  22. The weekend really typifies what weve had to endure for several months now. Promising ridge builds over the UK but within a couple of days it is non existent as the mid Atlantic high takes over channeling low pressure back towards us. Least we can still hope for bonus nice days like today even though low pressure is in control.
  23. And when the high did eventually set up position to the east of the UK during August it was too far east to deliver any heat. I seriously think we have been unluckly the way things have panned out this summer. Time to wipe the slate clean and come back next year.
  24. Im not too sure where to put 2015 against other summers since 2007. It has sure been better than what 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012 delivered round here. Probably on a par with 2009 and 2010. 2013 is the stand out year of recent summers for sure.
  25. After a premature plunge into cool and showery conditions this week it does look like the models want to push high pressure more south and east during next weekend and beyond. #
