  1. no direct overhead storm, but i have been hearing thunder from various cells for 2 hours ! with visible flashes at times, quite an electrically active storm to the west of wigan an hour ago, with many rumbles, it all started at about 2.30 not heard anything for 30 minutes now
  2. cell is moving away to my south no more thunder now ,it was mostly cloud to cloud lightning the thunder sounds more crackley rather than the deep booms of the storm last week
  3. a new cell has formed a few miles to my west , i can hear a few rumbles,
  4. heavy shower just passed through, looked thundery for a time, but unlikley to happen, like i have said from years of experience , once you get heavy rain, before you hear any thunder or see any lightning , there usually isnt any elecrical activity and the showers past maturity stage , I called these failed thunderstorms ! getting used to that !
  5. looks like midlands southwards going to have the best chance tommorrow, again
  6. has there actually been any notable thundery activity in that rain band across chesire , the way the bbc had those dancing lighntning graphics , (yet again) filckering away on their forcast across south lancs , cheshire, north wales, you would think there would be a decent storm now, this is fifth day on the trot a big fail as far as thunder is forecast for the NW, for this so called week of thundery showers and sunny spells its been grey overcast clagg and a spells of drizzle and occassional moderate/ heavyish rain all the way, today there is a bit of an impovement this afernnoon and slighty resembles one of those heavy showers and sunny spells days, off to the gym now, nowt going to happen here
  7. 3 days in row heavy thundery showers forcast with bright sunny spells, so what do we actually get, 3 days in a row with a grey statusfest bore, with on and off rain or drizzle, rubbish cue someone to tell me the forecasts were accurate ,
  8. i know how you feel, although we have had a few sporadic rumbles and flashes here so far in 2016 , its been nothing out of the ordinary, and not a patch on the activity we used to get in the 80's
  9. just looked at the ustream tower bridge live cam, can see the london storm at the back of canary wharf skyscrapers , the lightning is very infrequent though
  10. i am under it, its nothing much , looks worse becuase it is dusk
  11. it was over the top for the north west though , even helen willets on last nights beeb foracast had those lightning flash symbols dancing all over the area for today, and they did it last night too, she even had that omg voice......quote.... 'the north west again...in for some TORRENTIAL downpours and thunderstorms' , she then showed a large puddle in a back street on a housing estate in stockport , now, just becuase that happened , the whole north west is at high risk, the reality is not much happened again. not her fault , just relaying ott information about the severity and extent of thunderstorms, then again its cry wolf as far as i am concered , very rare they get storms right for this part of the world , btw we have has 5 thunder days this year, even though they have been relativley tame storms, which mean our average annual qota is maxed out , so anything now in 2016 will be a bonus rant over
  12. midlands going well for storms, yet the bbc keep putting lighning symbols around the manchester area, i am having non of it, anyway typical overcast day here with on and off rain or drizzle that has summed up this 'thundery' spell
  13. the bbc has lightning graphics over the north west of england for 23.00 tonight. ok then
  14. i think someone mentioned that today would be more about the rain than the amount of thunder and lightning, they were correct, apart from some areas of the south east getting thunder again , its been dissapointing, too overcast , with just heavy or moderate rain
  15. from my experience, and its not by any means what always happens, but you hear thunder first before rain from decent thunder showers, when you get rain first and then it starts to ease, its usually game over, the chance of it suddenly going thundery are slim, like i said just in my experience
  16. only 17c here, completley overcast here all day, with heavy/moderate rain setting in, thunderstorms were forcast for parts of the north west this afternoon , really ? not going to happen now , here anyway
  17. few sporadic rumbles again here this afernoon, 5 thunder days so far in 2016 , not bad for here,
  18. really cant see any thundery activity going to spark off over the the north west now, its was never a done deal,
  19. just had five flashes and deep rumbles here , very sporadic , all stopped, better than nothing i suppose
  20. 2 distant rumbles to the north , thats maybe our ration for this thundery episode lol better than nothing
  21. no where near as humid i think , as that memorable night, just messy overcast here now , bit of modrate rain from the shower to the north, 16c fresh breeze, not confident think those stoke showers will die or move north east
  22. i can see the towers for this through the haze, not expecting anything here though, the wigan storm sheild as been operating on full throttle, saturday saw storms to the south of here , heard 1 distant rumble, sunday had stoms over to the west, just saw the anvil. yestersay was a storm to the north around preston, now we have one to the north east , still nothing here in no mans land, like the song,,,stuck in the middle , only hope is a distant flash or two after dark from any distant storm
