  1. the climate in the uk is autumn by default for all 12 months, the only way to tell the season is if the leaves are bare or not . or if it goes dark at 4.00pm
  2. Think of taking up embroidery , far more exciting the the NW weather
  3. North West England has never really been a great place to be if you like thunderstorms, and its getting worse, not sure what the dynamics are that storms dont particularly happen here that often , is it the storm killer Irish sea ? , you would think, but yet that seems to generate more thunder than over the land , so it cant really be that, especially the last year or so , last evening was another example Yes it was better decades ago, but so were other regions, It really is the capital of boring non weather , and it seems to getting more mundane , we cant even get proper sunny hot cloudless days anymore or even just cloudless days , it sucks here
  4. sure we had a positive strike not far from here last night, maybe two or three miles , but the deep low frequency explosive sound reverberated into the distance for ages I missed rather spectacular funnel cloud last week over Wigan that touched down in fields in Billinge area http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/incredible-footage-captures-swirling-twister-13466112
  5. funnel cloud in wigan, you can see it roping out http://www.wigantoday.net/news/environment/twister-captured-on-video-in-wigan-1-8694336
  6. had to put the heating on yesterday for an hour or two, just to take the chill off, this morning, getting up for work at 6.50am felt distinctly autumnal, the forcasters keep saying about the jet being in an usual southerly position for summer , but is it ? it does seem to come over us and pester more often in the summers recently, maybe its the new normal position for summer
  7. torrential showers just clipped here about an hour ago, one close flash and crack of thunder
  8. just half a mile from my house ! http://www.wigantoday.net/news/pictures-mini-tornado-causes-trail-of-destruction-1-8671166
  9. nice little storm earlier, with mostly bright purple intracloud forks, unusual to see the lightning fizzle as it moved east, storms usually become more electrical as they head over to the east from here daytime ones anyway
  10. july is traditionally the thunderiest month here, possibly august too, , there has been no thunder so far this july, would put a bet on it , there wont be any before the end too oops looks like i was wrong 5 days to go and a little thunderstorm crops up tonight, so july gives us thunder again as always, but still a poor year
  11. storm here a short while ago, quite a few IC flashes and rumbles , gusty wind torrential downpour for a few minutes
  12. there is an valid explanation here why the weather is going to be cool, wet and windy for a good chunk of he remaining summer, they get it right everytime, the polar opposite that is ..... http://www.express.co.uk/news/weather/828381/bbc-weather-forecast-hot-uk-heatwave-news
  13. intense looking shower over liverpool and one to the south of manchester, any thunder in these, i can see the dark skies towards these locations, with towers over the tops
  14. just to add, i will predict tommorrow........storms will form to the east and then'push away' to the east
  15. just like the other day , the northwest storms start over north wales and push away into the irish sea, avoiding the populated areas again, its as though they are sticking two fingers up at us
  16. Used to be a fan of heat and humidity, especially at weekends when not a work , mostly because it nearly always brought thundery episodes at some point , I could tolerate working in it knowing a good chance of being rewarded with thunder and lightning now it does not pan out like that anymore , here at least, so i have started preferring temps in the high teens rather than high twenties, heat and humidity is pointless without storms, and becoming an annoyance now , today has felt much better
  17. somethings definitely changed, as too what , who really knows, am old enough to remember those days july is traditionally the thunderiest month here, possibly august too, , there has been no thunder so far this july, would put a bet on it , there wont be any before the end too this area seems to have some kind of inhibitor to thunderstorms lately, take yesterday, you would think the storms would have preferred the warmer inland areas, this is why the east gets more storms right???? long land track to build the heat for convection, same as on the continent , land mass for heat and convection right???? so why did yesterdays northwest storms not want to come anywhere near the main inland areas, developing over the sea and pushing over cumbria before fading, you could see on the radar the convection fizzling to patchy light rain as the area of activity tracked over land before fizzling, yet it kept going over the sea, whilst the eastern side of the band over the land melted away to drizzle
  18. this is the worst year so far for storms in these parts, only one thunder day so far , and that wasn't overhead , back in the day widespread storms meant just that, if the forecast said isolated you would get something similar to today, with a few select locations getting thunder, now it seems widespread storms forecast just means you get very isolated ones , and isolated means..err nothing anywhere
  19. well the drixxle is here, game over, what has gone wrong with the storm setups nowdays might go the gym now yawn
  20. yeah , thats all I am expecting here soon, if any rain falls at all , take care drizzle incoming !
  21. I was foolish to get my hopes up on todays storms, after seeing the bbc putting those dancing lightning symbols all over the north west, then as the time approached i got a sinking feeling the storms will do their usual sneaky thing and develop in the direction you were not expecting , and then taunt you with dark skies and push away, i knew when the sky started to have the stormy look north west of here as they were developing to the north and will then push away, game over, i was naively expecting them to come from the south with those distant rumbles approaching, grrrr think i heard one distant rumble , but who cares now , sod the bleedin unreliable storms , bring on autumn
  22. i had a feeling this would happen, it would develop in north wales , move into the irish sea , and affect north Lancashire and Cumbria , leaving the populated areas of the north west like here with no thunder, always seems to do this
