  1. maybe the weather had its own brexit vote , and voted leave, continental style weather is in decline, meanwhile in europe it appears to be growing , just like the economy
  2. I too have noticed a gradual decline, having been a young child in the seventies , i can recall many storms during the summer months and occasional ones at other times of the year, the main decline seems to have set in during the millennium I was thinking it just random, but it seems to much of a pattern, as for why , decling sun spots seems the obvious , but man made interference has even entered my head , is there cloud seeding taking place on a large scale that we are unaware of ?? increasing amount of contrials from passenger jets ??, I even had the theory of increasing percentage of heavy CO2 in the air, is making it less bouyant for rapid convection, which is probably an unlikely explanation, as a thunderstorm lover, its very very depressing just like the lack of regular snowfall in winter for snow lovers
  3. I was thinking the same, whats going on , all seems too common over the past couple of years or so, it does seem harder to generate widespread thundery activity, than it did back in the eighties , or so it seems I always remember forcasts saying, '''thundery activity will become more widespread later'' , seemed a common saying when thunder was predicted, you know it would happen with such words , and it nearly always did, now it nearly always fails
  4. i was expecting a bit of a cracker for the north west, maybe not a direct hit , but at least many distant rumbles if nothing else , it all seemed right , but its a damp squib so far, maybe distant lighting after dark ? , that could be too much as ask as well
  5. well that was boring, 4 or 5 very very distant rumbles , which were hardly noticable over the ambient noise , and few spots of rain added to the excitement
  6. think i have jinxed it, not heard any more thunder , think its going to miss here and move west towards south manchester area
  7. can see a huge anvil through the humid haze to my south, and hear very distant booms of thunder
  8. hope the stuff developing in north wales develops more and moves into this area . whats the chances, game on at the moment for merseyside and greater manchester ? oh please I hope so,
  9. ^ says he who will wither and melt like a wimp as soon as a bit of hot sun or humidity hits if you cant stand the heat..... move to lapland
  10. driving into work in st helens should be fun tommorow for me
  11. bleedin heck , where has this come from, potent gusts here, we has named storms pass over here last winter that were not as windy as this
  12. noticed one flash of lightning yesterday evening in the corner of my eye, as I was walking towards th window to shut the curtains
  13. ah lowton about 4 miles from my house, just wondered if i had stayed at home the show would have been just as good, it all seemed to be going east of here , I could see the flashes and distant growling thunder sneaking past , so i went after it in the car as traffic was easing, but I think it had some back building too over this area , it was still giving odd flashes and rumbles when I got back to my house , but quickly died
  14. hope a few storm starved got their fix last night, bit of a no show here , but that was forecast, we got our turn on tues evening , and what a show it was , more so to the east of here in the manchester area, went on chase towards it and was amazed at some of the lightning which was vivid at dusk, to be honest its not been a bad year in this part for thunder , easily 9 or 10 thunder days , some have just been a couple of rumbles , and a one or two have been quite feisty , and the good news is the irish sea to the west of here is quite warm, any unstable cold uppers going into autumn and winter could give some good coastal convection
  15. I was in this area just to north of manchester on tues night , must have seen over 100 flashes on my little chase from the hindley area, and one landed not far from me like the pic, must have been 150m away I saw the cg plasma channel melt away, the sound was explosive, I used a few swear words, I can tell ya
  16. I should have known better than facebook , i dont live in manc , but I know it well enough to know there are more new apartment towers around there now, that are missing in the pic,
  17. so pleased i did , but the driving was bit hairy, decided to chase because i knew this was a proper thunderstorm cell, saw one of the most spectacular close cg for years, it had a wide centre channel and many finer branches, and sound was insane, really think it was a positive cg , very powerful, the ground shook like a sonic boom , was still seeing odd flashes in the dusk sky on the way home ,two hours later
  18. i take back what what I said earlier about the storms dying as they hit the north west , they pepped up , skirted with the manchester storm here, but i drove down the A6 and parked up in swinton area, dont usually do chases but OMG the lightning was insane, explosive CG dropping all around , I was worried about being to close to a tree and promptly moved, this almost equalled the big storm at the begining of july last year , but this seemed to have more cg type strikes, so was better in that respect, excellent storm
  19. dissapointing as usual for here, the bbc graphics had lightning dancing all over the north west from mid afternoon to early evening, but its all happening the midlands as usual, as the storm sheild is killing the electical activity as they dare to move into the north west , the north west sucks for storms
  20. stange that, the storm was making a beeline for me, but I only started seeing the distant flashes when it was leaving liverpool area about 17 miles from here, must have been the low cloud and murk, the storm never came overhead but gave a few flashes and rumbles just to my north west, cant complain in this poor summer, the thunder days are now up to seven here
  21. well after the beeb saying yesterday..... 'lots of lighting for a time here'.... pointing at the north west of england then come on here and hear talk of possibly one flash of lightning in exeter , or maybe not...... says it all, off to bed yawn
  22. game over here i think, dont think it was ever on for us, despite one of the BBC forcasters saying 'lots of lightning here for a time' as he was referring to the north of England this evening , so where is thats lots of lightning then ? why do they say that and get hopes up. should have known better things never looked quite right all day , just light grey clagg and murk all day, yet the forcasters kept saying thunderstorms later , i was having non of it can we sue them
  23. someone said earlier 'whats the missing ingredient this time' for this predicted thunder spell to fail yet again my answer would be its not the 1980's or 1990's anymore
